State of Athletics Under Wood
Shall we discuss the performance of Athletics over his tenure ?
Women's Field Hockey - worse
Mens Soccer - worse
Baseball - worse
Womens Basketball - about the same maybe slightly worse
Men's Basketball - worse
Football - good, then bad, and perhaps on the upswing

Disbanded Wrestling

Time for a change ?????

RE: State of Athletics Under Wood
It’s been time for a change for years.

Who cares how much money you raise for athletics if no one actually wants to watch the absolute crap product being put onto the field year after year.

The current state of our athletic department is inexcusable and it’s time to clean house.

Let the new president hire his man and let that man hire his man. If you don't like Wood, why would you want to see him make the next hire.

I want Jones and Selig gone. They’ve done NOTHING to warrant keeping their jobs.

Open your wallet and tell Broderick (or the incoming president) that you’ll pay for their buyouts...... I am sure you’re so great at your job that you have the means

At wku we liked him as a person but weren’t sad to see him leave.

I expect this is what will happen. But the new person won’t know how bad Wood has done and may keep him around too long. We need new blood ASAP. The other thing (and I know not everyone agrees) is that IMO, Broderick cares about athletics and would do his best to make a great hire. The new Pres may not have athletics as high of a priority. We will see.

RE: State of Athletics Under Wood
Posted this in the FIU thread, but seems more relevant here. I’ve been a hardcore fan for 30 years. JJ’s sinking of our program, combined with some personal changes in my life have almost brought me to the point of not caring. Every year it’s “wait till next year”. Well “next year” is here now, and it’s not very good. Time for a new coach. Before it’s too late. If Wood won’t do it, I wouldn’t be sad to see a new AD either. That’s the job. Do it.

New president will be hired through a search firm at least in part.

To show loyalty to said firm, said president will hire said firm to find candidates for some position, in this case AD seems ripe.

Search firms are a huge racket.

Wish we would just hire someone local that has ties to ODU and has some skin in the game and not some national search that yields someone that has never been on campus and is looking for a better job. We need a Paul Trible type. What about Ralph Northam?

Well Ever, Northam did in fact just buy a totally beautiful house on the water from two of my friends, right down the road from ODU. But then again, ODU has a house already for their President.

Not gonna happen bro!

My vote is Thomas Demarco for AD. He's worked for ODAF, he's played every sport known to man, he's got an MBA and a solid business acumen, and he's well-liked in the community.

How about Dave Twardzik, with Demarco as his #2 to learn for a few years.

We should just accept mediocrity according to some posters on here. "Forget the good ole days. They will never return. Jeff Jones is as good as it gets unless we get major donors to pony up."

I’d love to see us have some swagger and higher aspirations. To act like we belong. Blaine was that way. I remember when the VCU AD stated his goal was to never have VCU referred to as a mid major again. I Love that. Meanwhile, it seems we just make excuses why that’s all we will ever be. Woe is us. All we deserve is Jeff Jones and a CIT bid every 5 years.
