If it's true GS skips ULM and Coastal skips UL, then that means either:

1. Troy and South will skip each other this season (which I have a hard time believing)

or

2. App or Georgia State skip South, which means we don't appear to be on any kind of scheduling "cycle" that is really logical since both teams have already skipped South since 2018.

Troy v South is a protected cross division game IIRC

The conference schedule was released a while back by the SBC and contained several years of future SBC schedules. I compiled the above from FBSchedules.com.

Huh. Didn't realize we'd miss USA again so quickly. That's a little disappointing, as I've always thought of them as at least a near-rival due to our starting teams around the same time and playing each other in the early years.

The Sun Belt making the odd decision to not protect any cross division rivalry other than USA/Troy has the unfortunate side effect that we tend to miss teams more often than normal.

If we had simply taken the step to give each team a protected rival in the other division, You'd play each non protected rival three times in a 4 year period, missing them in that 4th year. By not protecting any other game, you get weird situations like AState missing Troy in 2021 after also missing them in 2018.

This was supposed to be our year to miss Coastal, but it was also Troy's year to miss South, which can't happen so every other game gets thrown off, Also home/road splits will eventually get thrown off and you'll end up traveling to a school twice in a row, like we did to Southern in 2017 and 2018...

I really wish the league would go behind and fix this now that everything has settled after realignment.

I'll add an addendum. The other way to fix the scheduling mess would be to send a scouting party to Hattiesburg, MS and see what they come back with...

RE: Who misses who next year in conference football?
I think everyone having a protected game cross division would help but there aren’t really pairings that fit. I suspect most everyone in the east would balk at being locked into the longer trip to San Marcos and many would just as soon not be locked into AState and the bus ride from Memphis.

AState given their choice would say Troy which can’t happen with a second choice of Georgia State because it’s the next closest

In the end toughing it out is probably most agreeable

I'm guessing one of the parameters for cross-division scheduling is to ensure no one has to play on the road at a particular Sun Belt team twice in a row.

I was thinking there was a chance we'd end up going to Jonesboro twice in a row (2019 and 2021) but it looks like we'll have the Red Wolves at home.
