This is a great start for such a young team.

RE: 2020-21 Women's Basketball thread
The CAA is actually off to a pretty good start on the WBB end of things. The league ranks 8th among conferences in the very early going. 8 of the 10 teams are at least .500 or better at the moment.
Delaware (3-0) in particular is off to a hot start, with road wins against Pitt (3-2) and St. John's (2-2). And Drexel (2-1) lost a close one @ Villanova (6-0) today, 48-46.

WBB is on the road to face Kennesaw State tomorrow (Friday) at 2. The Owls are 1-0 on the season but this will be their first DI game of the season.
UNCW's game @ Duke on Dec 22 has been postponed due to positive COVID tests among the team travel party.

All Duke's teams seem to be trying to weasel their way out of as many non conference games as they can

I caught the last 5 minutes of the 1st half, and it looked as ugly as the score. Our defense has looked pretty good when we've been able to apply pressure. We forced a couple "over-and-back" turnovers on the Owls, who racked up 14 turnovers in the half.
Unfortunately, it appears we haven't taken advantage of those turnovers, and also have 10 of our own.
On the plus side, at least SG Za'Nautica Downs is back in action for us. She got a nice "and-one" that I saw, where she had an open layup but waited a bit for the defender to make contact and then finished at the rim. Hopefully she can help key a big 2nd half.

Monster 3rd quarter for the Seahawks. They've outscored the Owls 18-4 since the break, and with 3:00 left in the quarter they're down 36-33. Za'Nautica Downs just banked home a 3, forcing a KSU timeout.

RE: 2020-21 Women's Basketball thread
46-43 Seahawks, end of the 3rd. A 28-14 quarter for UNCW.
The big adjustment by Coach Barefoot was switching to a 2-3 zone on defense to force KSU out of the paint, where the Owls have 22 of their 43 points.

2020-21 Women's Basketball thread
Not sure if any of y’all saw, I’m sure you did though. Duke women’s team decided to cancel the rest of their season yesterday or the day before. So they’re done. I think it’s dumb, especially considering the success of teams figuring out how to deal with it.
This followed some really pointed criticism leveled at the NCAA by Coach K after his team took a loss (surprise surprise). He doesn’t think this season should be played either. My guess there is that’s a weird way to publicly admit his team isn’t as competitive as some of his past teams.
Just something to be watching...

To be fair, he was saying the same stuff before the season ever got started.

Well. At least he’s staying consistent then. I stand corrected. This last one was the first I’d heard it from him. I think the overall safety of players, coaches and teams are important. That being said, all of the major sports have essentially been going off well without any major issues. So, continuing to say they shouldn’t be playing despite the care in ensuring they’re good to go is ridiculous to me. Teams in major sports get tested and checked far more than most people in society. If it’s that much of a concern for him, perhaps he should just retire.

Are you inferring that Coach K’s take would be based on wins and losses? Unfortunately that same thought was in my head too.
For some reason I believe that the Duke women’s coach is doing this for the right reasons however.

Well, 33 said he’s been saying the same thing for a while. I’m all about being fair to that, even if I disagree. Yes, I do think it has SOME to do with wins and losses though. I also think his disagreement with playing the season could lead to his focusing too much on it and less on coaching (at some level).
I think their hearts and minds are likely doing it out of the right place. Logically though, I disagree and think it’s ridiculous and turning into even more virtue signaling at this point. Especially with the vaccine (regardless of how we may feel about it) already out with much more on the way.

Actually they let the players on the women's team decide whether to continue or not.

Yep. Which is why I said I think their hearts and minds are in the right spot.
I wonder if the university which makes a LOT of money off the men’s team would allow them to make such a major decision. You’d love to think they would but something tells me money is a much greater factor there.
