Exclamation CUSA 2020 Season Bowls
CUSA teams are off to a heck of a start in this season’s bowl games.

12/21 - Myrtle Beach Bowl - Appalachian St 56 - UNT 28
12/23 - R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl - Ga Southern 38 - La Tech 3
12/23 - Montgomery Bowl - Memphis 25 - FAU 10
12/25 - Camellia Bowl - Buffalo 17 - Marshall 10
12/26 - Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl - UAB v TBD (cancelled - So Carolina out due to Covid)
12/26 - SERVPRO First Responder Bowl - Louisiana 31 - UTSA 24
12/26 - Lending Tree Bowl - W Kentucky v Georgia State

So the CUSA champs don’t even get to play a bowl game? Maybe the Owls should offer a rematch of the season closer?

RE: CUSA 2020 Season Bowls
Thru 12/23, CUSA is 0-3. Outscored 119-41. And it’s not like CUSA is playing Alabama or Clemson in these bowls.

Someone explain, again, why Rice isn’t dominating this league???

RE: CUSA 2020 Season Bowls
Check out the conversation on the UAB board. They won the CUSA. Were assigned to a bowl I suspect most never heard of against a 2-8 South Carolina team. 2-8 really? South Carolina has Covid issues and the game is cancelled. Was there an attempt to find a replacement? Who knows. I'm sure some other 2-8 team could have been found, but they wouldn't have been from the SEC. Blazer fans really want to be in the AAC but are willing to jump ship to the Sunbelt. Even some "why not go independent sentiment"?
Sound familiar?

I've already suggested that (see 1st post in thread). 2-3 and available > 2-8 and unavailable.

This post on BlazerTalk sums things up pretty well.

Marshall was just in the AP Top 25 until the Rice game.

They got a shot at then #23 Appy at home early and made the most of it. Outside that game, their schedule was pretty weak. I think the layoffs and lack of challenge made them complacent. Plus they probably were never really top 20 material. This season was a unique opportunity, particularly early, to get some rapid movement up the polls.

A pretty stunning reversal of fortune for the Herd.

Great job CSUK! Don't get your best team in a bowl game and then the rest **** the bed. **** em. AAC, Belt, MAC, anywhere would be better.

So far 0-4, and to avoid a 2020 goose egg we need UTSA or WKU to win this afternoon, with the latter the likely last best hope.

So, worst conference in the country is proving that it deserves that title, and we can't even play .500 ball in it. How bad is that?

At half time,
UTSA down 7-17 to the Ragin' Cajuns.
WKU down 7-27 to Georgia St.

Exactly. Meanwhile, JK's last Rice Athletics update email went on about how great the football recruiting class is. I'm sure these are all fine young men, and some may turn out to be darn good football players for Rice. But if the best thing you can say about your football program's progress after your head coach's 3rd season is "our next recruiting class is really good" ...

At least UTSA made a game of it, tying up Louisiana at 24 at 13:32 in the 4Q, before falling 31-24.

And that's a wrap, CUSA 0-6 after:
WKU falls to Georgia State 21 to 39.
UTSA falls to the Ragin' Cajuns 24 to 31.

And CUSA goes 0-6-"cancelled due to Covid" in the post season. Let there be no doubt about the worst conference in FBS.

The bowl games are a joke this year. The Championship bowls also have no meaning this year.with all the games cancelled.

Well that must be the reason that CUSA is 0-6-whatever you call the UAB game that didn’t happen. Couldn’t possibly be CUSA football is really bad.

Not gonna start a new thread for it, but noticed that Hawaii and their terrible coach beat UH in their bowl game:

link: Hawaii beats Houston 28-14 in New Mexico Bowl

I haven't watched any football of any kind this year (though I'm considering going to a HS champ game next week). I did like the 'bows helmet design they wore this year:

No yellow stripes in there, so I guess it's all good.

I though UH (the commuter school that is) was supposed to have been good this year, but I guess not if UH beat them. Still maybe UH is turning the corner on the way up, while UH is clearly at a standstill or on their way down for a while. But, eventually UH will get its act together, while UH may be careful not to ride too high.

Quote:In a game the Rainbow Warriors weren’t initially expecting to play in, the ‘Bows seized the day and proved to be the more physical team on both sides of the ball, particularly on defense, where they forced three turnovers and had nine tackles for loss.

Hawaii coach Todd Graham closes the 2020 campaign with his 100th career win. The win also served as the program’s first mainland bowl win since the 1992 Holiday Bowl.

Hawaii is now 2-0 against Houston. The first matchup between the UH programs came in the 2003 Hawaii Bowl, a 54-48 victory for Hawaii.

Houston finishes the 2020 season at 3-5, while Hawaii improved to 5-4 to seal a winning season. Hawaii enters the offseason with some uncertainty on where it’ll play its home games for the next few seasons, as Aloha Stadium will not be able to host the Rainbow Warriors for the foreseeable future.
Maybe this UH win will help them get a newer stadium like UH got a few years ago.

Houston has lost its last 4 bowl games. Their 13-1 team in 2015 defeated Florida State in the Peach Bowl.

Rice last went to a bowl game in 2014.
