2021 NFL Draft
It's about time. CBS mock draft has Myjai Sanders going in first round at #24. Bearcats haven't had a 1st round draft pick since DT Bob Bell in 1971. The 2020 salary slot is about $13 million over four years.

Would hate to lose Sanders, but that would be so sweet

RE: 2021 NFL Draft
More fuel to the fire...Matt Miller from B/R likes him a lot too:

Quote:7. Stock Up: Edge Myjai Sanders, Cincinnati

During a chat with an area scout this week, he asked where I had Cincinnati edge-rusher Myjai Sanders ranked. I scrolled way too far down my rankings and didn't see him! Panic crept in before I realized I hadn't moved him from a junior to a likely-to-declare player on my list.

That error has been fixed, and Sanders is now ranked as a top-40 player.

An electric athlete off the edge, Sanders has transformed himself from a 215-pound recruit to a 6'4", 258-pound bull of a pass-rusher with the quickness, length and power that scouts fall in love with.

In a group that features a lot of production and a lot of talent, Sanders has the goods to make noise in the edge-rusher group.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2920...fts-top-10

CBS Sports' most prolific draft expert has Sanders as one of the biggest risers in 2020:

Quote:Myjai Sanders, EDGE, Cincinnati
On 10.2% of his pass-rush attempts in 2019, Sanders registered a pressure. This season, the junior has upped that figure to 14% and has developed more effective moves to beat blockers en route to the quarterback. His swim, probably his most relied-upon maneuver, has become deadly.

Loaded with racecar-like explosion off the snap and smooth athletic traits to effortlessly change directions at 6-foot-5 and 258 pounds, Sanders has been the key cog in Cincinnati's swarming defense, and there's room for extra weight on his frame. Plus, his arms go on for days, and he uses them well to keep offensive tackles off his chest when he's rushing. There's some speed-to-power conversion to his game too.

It's a quality edge-rusher class in 2021, but Sanders is absolutely one of the best prospects at his position and will get the "high upside" label because of how his body can continue to fill out once he's part of an NFL strength and conditioning program.

I think it's safe to say he's gone...and here's hoping he can maintain that trajectory and become another great representative of the Cincinnati brand. A first round pick will go a long way in recruiting the next group, but I think he's safely gone by the end of Day 2 (anywhere from 1st to 3rd Round). People forget, he was one of the last commits in the '18 Class...8 days before signing day he committed, a great late add by the coaching staff.

RE: 2021 NFL Draft
NFL Draft Scout, which is attached to CBS Sports' Draft Coverage has the following seniors ranked in positions:

James Smith - #1 P
James Wiggins - #6 FS
Darrick Forrest - #6 SS

FWIW they also have the following ranks for individuals who are not seniors:

James Hudson - #6 OT in 2022 Draft
Desmond Ridder - #7 QB in 2022 Draft
Myjai Sanders - #10 EDGE in 2022 Draft

So we could have a pretty decent draft year depending on who goes, because I think I team might take a chance with someone like Harper, Ponder, Bryant, or White late too.

But we just don’t have the same type of talent as the P5? Lol!

There is a lot of NFL talent on this team. Consider some of the younger guys like Whyle, Ford, Gardner, etc... and there is plenty of talent. With guys like Bryant and Ponder likely to at least get a camp tryout there are potential NFL players all over this team. I was hoping we would retain a few key pieces but putting players in the NFL is one heck of a recruiting tool. Especially if we are putting players in after 3 years.

This is where those recruiting classes and player development become important. If we end up losing the majority of the players it’s time for the next group to step up and keep the momentum.

I think Des may come down on how he performs in the bowl game. A big game against a team like UGA with future NFL players and it will improve his stock and it may be his best option to strike while the iron is hot. A bad, or average game and it will reinforce the thought he needs another year to develop.

If I had to guess, I would think he is the most likely to return out of the 3 underclassmem who are considered potential candidates to leave early.

This is where those recruiting classes and player development become important. If we end up losing the majority of the players it’s time for the next group to step up and keep the momentum.

We could, at most, lose 4 starters on offense (Ridder, Doaks, Hudson, and Harper) and 6 starters on defense (Bryant, Wiggins, Forrest, White, Dublanko, Ponder and Sanders). I'm confident we'll be humming again next year as long as our QB situation is figured out.

I actually think Bush is an upgrade on Bryant, and Cook and Hicks have both played very well backing up Forrest and Wiggins. We lose a ton with White and Sanders is going to be tough to replace...but there are still dudes in the classes waiting to jump up. Briggs may be a pretty sizeable upgrade on Ponder, who was already a GREAT player for us, and Van Fossen and Ingle have both played very well and would be a speed upgrade from Dublanko. We are losing a ton, but we still bring back quite a bit more.

On offense, going from Ridder to anyone else will precipitate a completely changed offensive mentality, but Ford seems to be more than ready to take up the slack left by Doaks. Losing both bookends on the line would be very rough, although we do have guys with considerable gametime who could step in (Metz and McConnell, who came in as a tackle along with Kobe McAllister who seems like a promising guy based on his tape).

Regardless, I want as much Red and Black on draft day as possible...the quickest way to further increase your recruiting profile is by proving you're a viable path to the league. Getting 5-6 guys drafted would be a HELL of a start to proving that point.

Would be good if they could convince Pitts not to transfer and stay here another season, with all of the bodies we're losing on D this offseason.

Jim Mora's trained eye says "we just don't". He's had a super successful career that had nothing to do with who his dad is, so no way to argue that.

I don't think Bryant would be in the transfer portal if he thought Des was leaving but you never know...

My opinion is unless Des and his family really need the money now he should stay...
take another year (or two because of Covid year not counting) to get bigger and better — and enjoy a return to normal college life.
You can't get these years back and next year could be special for UC Football.

I would guess some guys are sick and tired of what they went through this year due to covid and just want to move on but next year should be a return to normalcy with the vaccine.

It looks like these guys have Dez going in round 2. Cats and Dogs living together. Mass Hysteria.

At some point I think the staff has to trust the players they have recruited and been developing. I’ve been impressed with D Line coach Scruggs but next year may really tell us how good he is.

We have the following in place for next season if Myjai leaves.

Malik Vann
Jabari Taylor
Jowon Briggs
Justin Wodtly

The rest I think are more question marks and the spot we really seem to be missing is the athletic edge rusher. We have some recruits we haven’t seen yet like Iziah Ruffin, Sterling Miles, JahMal Williams, etc... that seem to fit that mold but I’m not sure we have a replacement in mind right now.

It's crazy how the NFL has evolved and how the "athletic" QB is now highly valued, due to the success of Wilson, Mahomes, Jackson, Watson etc. I like Dez, he's a good QB, but there is NO WAY he's a 2nd round draft pick talent.

I think Tony Pike was twice the QB Dez is, and he was a 6th Rd pick.

Those guys are athletic but besides Jackson they're elite passers and were elite passers in college. If you're looking for an athletic QB who wasn't a great college passer I think the guy you're looking at is Josh Allen but Josh Allen has elite size and special arm talent.

Des has athleticism and height but he's nowhere close to anyone on this list as far as a passer. Even Lamar was a much better passer in college.

I'm probably old school, but I think the most important attributes for a QB are;

1) Reading Defenses
2) Arm Accuracy
3) Touch
4) Arm Strength

I don't think he does any of those thing real well. Then again, no one is paying for my opinion.

Can't completely disagree but in today's game of spread offenses and minimum protection packages, the ability to extend plays/avoid pass rushers and also to tie up a defender by being mobile are huge. I'd go with
1 - Reading defenses
2 - Accuracy
3 - Ability to extend plays and avoid big hits
4 - Athleticism at least to the point of forcing a team to commit someone to watch the QB in pure man coverage
5 - Arm strength
6 - Touch, which separates great from good and elite from great
but no one is paying to read my opinion either :-)

Bearcats have more than NFL talent.
LBs Beavers and Dublanko have the size and speed that the NFL wants.
All the DBs have the size (6 feet tall) that most NFL teams want
(maybe the exception is Jarell White.)
Question 1: S Jarell White is listed at 5-10, 205. Is he two small for the NFL? After four solid years at UC, I would love to see him back at UC.
Question 2: How many Bearcats will be drafted this year?
The record is 5 in 1998: Fabini, Artrell Hawkins, Derrick Ransom
The 1998 team beats both 2012 with 4: Derek Wolfe, John Hughes. Isaiah Pead
and 2009 with 4: Connor Barwin, Kevin Huber
I'm going to guess three, because great college teams have good NFL talent.
My final three: Sanders, Wiggins, Forrest.
The Georgia QB JT Daniels is supposed to be drafted mid-first round. He has started four games for Georgia. In 2019 and 2018 he had two bad years at USC. That's his record. Let's see him do something against Sauce and Wiggins and Bryant and Hicks and Forrest and Cook and whoever....
