Signing day 2021 - What a mess
New HS recruits heading to campus with only so many spots on a college scholarship roster.
All Existing team members get an extra year to play.
Who is staying & Who goes?

Is that 18 year old that the college coach has only seen film on more important for a scholarship than a versatile 22 year old senior that wants to play a 5th year?

How many team positions should be saved for possible Transfer Portal additions?

Etc Etc
Roll those dice

Have they not expanded the roster/scholarship allowances? To not do so would be morally irresponsible.

Most College Sports programs don’t have money to pay existing expenses so they can’t add more overhead.

It still amazes me with how much money colleges squeeze from students that they can't afford basic things like letting 20 students attend for free, eat in the dorms, and pay for their football pads.

Fire a useless administrator! :)

NCAA & MAC determine scholarship roster numbers not University administration

Multi-sport athletes

Multi sport athletes have their place but many large schools in the Midwest try to restrict football players to concentrate on football. That argument is weak.

14 isn't advocating kids play multiple sports in college, that they were multisport athletes in HS.

Highly-successful coaches such as Izzo and Urban Meyer have stated publicly they looked to recruit kids that played more than basketball or football respectively because they were more well-rounded athletically and socially, and more competitive.

Also less likely to flame out because they had been doing one thing 365/24/7 for ten-plus years already.

Study after study have also shown that kids who specialize are much more prone to overuse injuries.

RE: Signing day 2021 - What a mess
I had been thinking that the other team I am passionate about, Army, kind of gets screwed by this extra year of eligibility thing, because the the Firsties (seniors) at West Point are gone next year regardless (off to serve), and Army wont get an extra year out of those guys. But if in fact the scholarship restrictions are the same, there will be a lot of highly recruited HS seniors who wont get spots on other programs, and if they otherwise qualify, might land at Army. I hope that is the case.

I remember Fleck recruiting someone because the player wrestled in high school ... I can't remember who it was but he was always excited about multi-sport athletes.

Antonio Balabani was a state champion in wrestling I believe.

Well looks like we had 19 players sign the LOI’s this morning.

From what I can tell... that’s a full boat. 5 three stars and ranks us behind Toledo and Buffalo for average player rank. Toledo did well landing a top 70 class.

Nothing on social media yet? Usually they have Twitter announcements and hype film.

The @WMU_football account has them all posted. Each pick with a nice little image/highlight reel.

According to 247 our class ranks 6th.

Behind Toledo, Miami, NIU, CMU and Buffalo. We finished 3rd last season.

I think Lester’s Reign of Error is catching up to him on the recruiting trail. Losing and leaving the spotlight will do that. Cotton bowl season is firmly in the rear view.

Not to mention being on the verge of going to the MAC championship two years in a row and loosing ugly both times. Makes a kid think twice about WMU.

#2 in average player ranking which is what is most important. We didn't have room for 25 guys this signing period so that keeps the numbers down. Some great looking players in that class.
