I like it.

RE: 2021 CAA Baseball Scheduling
Very cool, I like this approach a lot.

This is the home slate I was sent earlier in the week. I have put CAA games in bold. Note that it is unofficial and can shift at any time, as we're all aware in a COVID climate.

* Feb 19-21: VCU
* Feb 26-28: Western Carolina (4 game series)
* Mar 12-14: App State
* Mar 17: ECU
* Mar 19-21: TBD
* Mar 23: NC State
* Apr 2-4: Elon
* Apr 10-11: UNCG (2 games)
* Apr 13: Coastal Carolina
* Apr 16-18: Dallas Baptist
* Apr 28: Campbell
* Apr 30-May 2: W&M
* May 7-9: JMU
* May 14-16: Charleston
* May 26-30: CAA Tournament (hosted by UNCW)

RE: 2021 CAA Baseball Scheduling
The fact that they are implementing a N/S division is a huge step, IMO. If everyone is happy, I could easily see this become a model in the future for all sports. That could lead to a real, long term solution for the conference to take us to the next level. Could also lead to expansion for non-football sports.

Yes!

Two seven team divisions that have as little interaction as the rules allow.

It would basically be two conferences sharing auto bids.

Not ideal but would be better than what we have now

It could be made ideal. It's kind of the best of both worlds. It would create regional rivalries with schools that have similar makeups, and then create a N/S rivalry. The biggest problem with the CAA has been such a huge footprint for a midmajor.

Right now, we're kind of stuck. We really don't have a lot in common with the SoCon schools which would be a better regional fit. And we haven't quite reached the level of the A10 for basketball, which also has a huge geographical footprint.

This would keep us aligned with schools we have a lot in common with and give us the regional footprint that saves money and creates better rivalries. This could also lead to luring UNCG into the CAA South.

Ideal to me would be a 10 team Southern, basketball centric league where we could get a few schools with football teams and not have to deal with which conference there school plays football in. Unfortunately that is not very realistic.

A 14 or even 16 team CAA where the north and south interact as little as NCAA scheduling rules allow is a realistic acceptable scenario at this point, although the easiest solution would be for CoC and UNCW to just go to the SoCon.

Unfortunately, the pickings are slim on who would sign up for a league like that, especially with the crappy CAA media deal. If I were UNCG leadership and the CAA came to me with this idea, it wouldn't sway me in slightest. If the CAA wanted to do this now, they would have to take interested Big South schools to fill out a Southern division

I agree that would be the "dream" scenario, but there are just too many moving parts for it to be realistic. The N/S scenario for the CAA can be accomplished with our current schools. There would be some conference games between N/S teams that aren't home and home, but that could be worked around.

The cost savings could also make the FloSports deal less appealing and open the door to the ESPN model. The greatest appeal of Flo to the conference was the income.

The other appeal is recruiting. Players are starting to show over and over that they want to stay close to home so their parents can attend games. A regional approach to the CAA would make it even more accesible for parents to travel to away games. Add to that a more regional approach to OOC scheduling, and this concept is even more appealing.

App State, Charlotte, ECU, UNCG, Davidson would all be great OOC games for UNCW to get multi season home and homes with. Campbell is nice, but there would be far more interest in these games.

I dont think UNCG would come, so the only realistic candidates I see would be Big South Schools or maybe UNC Central.

If we had a N/S, I wouldn't discount UNCG. I'd invite Campbell as well. That would be a really strong NC centered conference that has schools really close to William and Mary as well(I presume JMU leaves eventually).

At large bids are always extremely hard to come by in this league. Having an easy path to a top 2 seed (which is crucial given how well protected the top 2 seeds are in the CAA Tournament) would outweigh my RPI concerns from an NU perspective, I would say.

You make a good point. Didn't look at it that way.

But for Northeast teams, RPI is everything since we don't have many teams up here that consistently have good RPI's... unlike your region.

True. There’s certainly no easy and equitable solution in this strange time.

Hopefully the NCAA selection committee won’t penalize teams for playing regional schedules this year. Pure W-L evaluation needs to take precedence rather than emphasizing SOS. But I somehow doubt they’ll do that.

RE: 2021 CAA Baseball Scheduling
The schedule has been released: https://uncwsports.com/documents/2021/1/...hedule.pdf

https://uncwsports.com/news/2021/1/5/sea...edule.aspx

Seahawk Baseball Announces 2021 Schedule

UNCW to open season with 15-game homestand

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Highlighted by 34 home games, including a three-game series with Dallas Baptist, UNCW head baseball coach Randy Hood has announced the program's schedule for the upcoming 2021 season.

"This schedule will be a great test for the program and one that I think our fans will enjoy," said Hood. "We were able to take advantage of our location to play some strong programs in the region while also taking on some new faces.

"This was a tough schedule to put together and we expect some changes and adjustments. But we're looking forward to the challenges that are presented."

The Seahawks will play 12 games in a limited Colonial Athletic Association season. The conference has split into two divisions with the College of Charleston, Elon, James Madison and William & Mary joining the Seahawks in the south division. UNCW hosts William & Mary (Apr. 30-May 2) and James Madison (May 7-9) and visit Charleston (Mar. 26-28) and Elon (Apr. 23-25).

Dallas Baptist visits Wilmington (Apr. 16-18) for a three-game series between a pair of programs that have combined for 19 NCAA regional appearances since 2003. The series is the front end of a home-and-home arrangement with the Seahawks heading to Texas in 2022.

UNCW opens its second season under the direction of Hood on Feb. 19 with the first of a four-game series with visiting VCU. The teams will play two on Feb. 20 before wrapping the weekend up with a single game on Feb. 21.

Other home weekend series include Western Carolina, Appalachian State, Cincinnati and UNCG as well as non-conference series with Charleston, William & Mary and Elon.

The Seahawks close out the regular season with three games at Charlotte in late May.

Brooks Field will serve as host of the CAA Championship tournament on May 25-30.

Midweek contests will continue to be a test for the Seahawks with games against East Carolina, North Carolina State, Coastal Carolina and North Carolina.

Ticket information will be announced at a later date.

I don't know if you saw this, but Randy Hood did a podcast with Baseball America talking about the 2021 season...

2021 CAA Baseball Scheduling
Just read in the n & o that unc will only allow 2 relatives for each player at there games. That is not good news for fans that want to attend games at uncw. I think most teams in nc will do the same as unc.

I don't think UNCW will be as strict. People in Chapel Hill are crazy.
