SEC Leaving CBS for ABC: Inside the 10-Year Deal Starting in 2024
The conference has agreed to a 10-year contract with ESPN that grants ABC the broadcasting rights to its marquee matchups.

Quote:Though terms were not disclosed, ESPN’s annual fee is expected to be in the low $300 million range, according to Sports Business Journal, a considerable and expected increase from the $55 million per year that the conference receives from CBS—a bargain deal that was struck in 1996. CBS pulled out of negotiations this spring after the price tag got too high, SBJ reported.

Being a bottom feeder in the $EC has enormous perks.

Can the AAC negotiate with CBS though? This will push our primetime slots back.

RE: NTR: Rich get richer
So who is CBS going to go with? The Big 10 or ACC?

I mean the Pac 12 is kind of a joke right now and outside of Oklahoma, the Big 12 (man that is weird, the Big 12 with 10 teams and the Big 10 with 14 teams) has not too many eyeballs (Iowa State, TTech, Baylor, Okstate, WVirginia, TCU, Kansas, Kansas State don't really bring in the TV viewership) does not offer much. I guess is UT ever gets good again, maybe they will bring something to the table.

Actually looks kinda sad.

You might be able to pick up the Big12, American, and PAC12 and build a network on regional games. You might even throw in the Mountain boys. If you let them craft the OOC games around TV it might work.

Actually very Tiger related. Every contractual move any conference makes either improves or worsen our chances of inclusion. I think this one helps since the SEC got fatter. BIG12 needs help and Memphis/Houston/Cincinnati/SMU would round them out quite nicely.

I had the same thoughts as I read this thread. Television contract negotiations might spur expansion moves. I would replace SMU with UCF in your list, though.

I wouldn't make that move until Texas is over themselves. No Texas, no Power designation.

Do we have the ability to say "no?" We NEED it for the $$ alone. Just as TCU, Tex Tech, Rutgers, Louisville did, we'll take the 1st offer we get.

No. We don't NEED the money. We WANT the money. But look what happened to the "Big East" as soon as we got there. There "all of a sudden" was no more Power money. The same thing could/would happen in the BigXII if we got invited, and then Texas and Oaky leave.

What should Texas have to do to satisfy us before we allow the Big 12 to give us an extra $45 million per year in extra tv and ticket revenue every year? What would be fair?

My fear is that if anything, the powers that be may consider swapping US out with UCF. Geographically, UCF is the outlier of that list but they're a huge market. Houston and SMU have somewhat saturated markets in the Big XII, but I don't see that stopping them anytime soon. Cincy has been the golden child of the AAC as of late, even last year in some media circles despite us having played and beaten them twice back to back.

When it was going to happen last time, it was us and Cincinnati before ESPN stepped in, and that would have been a mess politically for the Texas schools, because NOBODY wanted Houston. If it is 2 schools it will be us and Cincinnati. If it is 4 schools it will be us, Cincinnati, UCF and probably Houston.

There isn't a single Big 12 school that wants Houston. You can't say especially the Texas schools or the other schools because nobody wants them. The timing would be better this time because two things happened that help with optics. Cincinnati went from sucking to very good, and Houston went from very good, to being a mess.

Which is VERY close to happening...There is a ton of decision here for some obvious reasons as well as underlying racial divides that wont be resolved easily..They are scrambling and may be forced to make changes that are consequential and (fingers crossed) be beneficial to "Lil Ole Memphus"
