The hits just keep on coming and we’re losing consequential players. I sure hope Ryan has a plan.

RE: Tim Hart
Let’s see where all of our transfers are going to before we raise any red flags here.
So far I have only seen a couple going to the OVC & none transferring up to the P5.....so to me that signals we have upgraded our depth & the players are looking for playing time elsewhere.
Also remember some of the assistants who recruited these kids may now be gone, so for a variety of reasons the fit now may not be what it was previously for them.
I wish all the kids the best with their future plans.....for the Tigers it should be next man up.

This! Although we’ve had more than 2 opt out, The folks who are making a big deal either don’t know what they’re talking about/ignoring what’s going on with all schools or are just trying to stir the pot.

All it means is we can take more mid-year and a foul class in regular signing. Wish in the Transfer portal we could find OL types to help out. Maybe an upper class big WR or 2 and same for DBs.
I think we are good at QB and RB.
The extra year being added is creating a numbers game for the B player commits. Colleges that are feeling they have a handle for who is leaving are starting to pull offers. There are many layers to issues that will last a couple of years.

Plenty of good information here to comb through. I'm not saying that there may NOT be a problem brewing on some level, but if you go take a list at other schools you'll see that what Memphis is experiencing isn't an outlier. Take a look at Alabama. Consistent coach, #1 in the nation, national exposure, and yet they have a good number of transfers out as well. 247 is showing them losing at least 2 4 star receivers, a 4 star LB to Jacksonville State, and a 4 star CB to ECU. With the rules as they are now, players are transferring out across the board for playing time somewhere else.

Exactly!
Are we strong without these guys? Seems like we're losing quite a bit of talent.

RE: Tim Hart
I would think the question REALLY becomes....how effective is Memphis at getting players to transfer here and fill in the positions where we need help. SMU has probably been the biggest beneficiary of the portal system because the school is located in talent rich Dallas. Here is a link to the article and quote from it. "Last season’s roster touted 31 transfers, most notably SMU’s all-conference quarterback Shane Buechele from Texas. On down the list, some of SMU’s most visible stars from a year ago came by way of another school. Reggie Roberson Jr. was a West Virginia product. Richard McBryde made the trip from Auburn."
“Keeping Dallas kids in Dallas will always be our priority. I think there is a shift [with kids wanting to do that]. I think we could see this even before COVID. I think they understand staying home creates a lot of opportunities to create a brand for themselves,” Dykes said.
“We want [them to see] you can get an education from a school like SMU and also have your friends and family come watch you play. We want to have enough credibly to say you don’t have to play in the SEC or Big 12. You can come to SMU and have the best of both worlds,” Dykes continued.
