COVID-19 vaccine
I noticed that the UK had given the OK to start vaccinating with the Pfizer product as soon as this week. They will initially treat front line health care workers and residents of nursing homes and Sr. Living facilities. After that they are gearing up for a mass vaccination program using stadiums and large venues and the armed forces to get the medicine to the general population.
Here in the US the FDA, et al will meet next week to consider an EUA for the Pfizer vaccine and the Moderna vaccine will be considered the week after that. If OK’d, it sounds like enough vaccine will be available for, roughly 25 million 2 dose regimens in the first few weeks after the EUA is approved. Sounds like we are going to prioritize administration in a similar fashion as the UK, with the general population having availability by March, or so.
I’m interested in how you, personally, feel about getting the vaccine.
Will you get it as soon as it’s available?
Wait for a while and see?
Never going to get it?

Going to get vaccinated as soon as it's available to the normies like myself. Between my job bringing me into contact with a lot of people in the field (outdoors, luckily) my wife having lung issues, and both of our elderly parents moving to NC with us this year, the more protection the better.
With UNC having lead the Moderna trial, maybe we'll get a little extra priority when it comes to the general public?
It will be interesting to see how behaviors start to change next year as the vaccine rolls out, and what behaviors may stick around, what behaviors will be the first to go, etc.

Same for me for similar reasons... Caring for elderly parents... and similar questions.

Well, in my case, I AM the elderly parent.
But I would like to note, by the time the vaccination protocol rolls over to you "normies", it will have been tested on millions of us oldsters and first responders,, and any side effects will be better known.

RE: COVID-19 vaccine
I am actually at the tip of the spear (or not, as the case may be).
I'm a participant in a vaccine trial --- had the first round 'video questionnaire' and slated for the first round this coming Tuesday. Of course, I dont know if I am vaccine shot or placebo man.
The trial organizer says that after 6 mos they will notify the placebo recipients for their option to be immediately inoculated if the trial is a success.
If I am a placebo man or if the trial is not a success, I plan on getting inoculated asaic (as soon as I can); but if the trial is not a success I am very aware I am in the lastie type group, and have zero issue with medical frontliners, first responders, and others in high contact situations (grocery store personnel, waitstaff, cooks, etc) being ahead in the queue. I'll wait patiently for the proper life boat in that case.

I was wondering, what sort of directions are you given about living life?
Do they recommend you try and lick every door knob possible? Or do they try to emphasize that you don't change your personal behavior at all?

I would think that some here assume that 'try[ing] [to] lick every door knob possible' would not necessarily be 'chang[ing] [my] personal behavior' in the slightest.
They indicated that I really shouldnt go out of my way to change behavior. Asking me to 'lick every door knob possible' might very well be a serious breach of their Hippocratic oath.
They said they would be more detailed when I get the first prick. (Not *when* I am the first prick, as I would hazard that I am already that for some here....)
Honestly speaking, between my practice and my new gig I have upped the level of personal contact in my life --- I am spending a ton of time in the Ace hardware store, Walmart, various county and state offices, and recently about 4 days of *real* manual labor with various neighbors fixing a collapsed bridge on the private road, and about half the time I am eating out (no real kitchen presently available where I am that half of the time).

I didn't address this, but would have said the same thing. By then, this will have been vetted by probably 100mm Americans and probably a billion worldwide.

Cheers to you and thank you for putting yourself at risk for us regarding the trial.
I understand a common side effect is irascibility, lol.

Thanks for the explanation - I assumed that the general instructions were to not change one's behavior, but I wasn't sure if that was the case given the goal of these trials is to actually have a certain % of the placebo group catch the virus.
I had wondered if there would be instructions on not isolating or to get back on the door knob licking wagon (I obviously kid on the door knob licking).

RE: COVID-19 vaccine
A properly vetted study should look at the behaviors of the cohorts and try to balance door lickers and bunker dwellers between the groups. Because this is a clinical trial and not merely a statistical analysis, they would try very hard not rely on a mathematical adjustment to the data to account for such differences.... especially under a EUA

It would be a change, but we cannot all be in agreement 100% of the time, can we? This forum is to air differences, not similarities. You have Vox for that.

One can disagree without arguing or bickering. One can discuss topics, like we were here, in the same manner.
Your post was churlish, at best, and did nothing more than provoke posters by trying to draw a connection between Tanq’s decision to enroll in the study and the political, philosophical, or linguistic differences between posters.
