RE: 2020 Kent State Football Season
I didn't know Nielsen was pushing the idea of running a fast offense in the interviews. Like him or hate him, gotta give him credit for that. I honestly don't understand why every MAC team doesn't try to play like that. If your even capable on offense it has to make it easier to recruit. Come here and you might not be our starting RB. Heck, you might be third string. But you'll get 10 carries and 50-100 yards.

Plus it's a much more enjoyable style to watch than a slow paced defensive based team and more likely to get guys to the next level which helps in recruiting a ton.

Nice article, thanks for posting the link. One thing though, Kent being mentioned as a suburb of Akron made me cough up my breakfast 03-puke

Not that it matters, but Kent is not a suburb of Akron. The Akron SMSA includes all of Summit and Portage counties with Akron being the central city, but Kent would be considered an independent city or maybe a satellite city, not a suburb.

This is the first coaching search sighting with Lewis on it. As much as it pains me to say it Lewis at Vanderbilt would make sense for them. He is used to making a lot out of nothing. Super energetic and would bring a completely different type of offense to the SEC.

Making a lot out of nothing is a lot easier in the MAC than the SEC. Dynasties are tough to sustain in the MAC because if you're good you get hired away. For Lewis's sake I hope he waits for a school with a better history. Just ask Hazell how difficult it is to turn around a losing program in a conference with perennial national powers.

I was looking at it from the stand point of the Vandy AD. If I was a young coach I wouldn't take the job but if I were an older coach looking for one last chance I would accept it. Get that last payday and then retire.

Ah yes, the Dick Crum strategy.

No, I’m not bitter. I’m over it.

Is it just me, or does anyone else here feel like the hubbub made over the Vanderbilt kicker is a bit overdone? They are ignoring the women who have already kicked more successfully years ago simply because although they are DI players, they are not on a “Power 5” school. Vanderbilt is a Power 5 football program? They couldn’t beat good FCS teams, let alone decent “Group of 6” teams. I’m glad the young woman got a chance to play, but it hardly seems like she’s really breaking much new ground. April Goss kicked an extra point in 2015 and she wasn’t even the first D1 female kicker to score., a U of New Mexico woman was first in 2003.

Nice Sports Illustrated feature on all three woman kickers. Lots from Goss in middle of story.

Oh come on guys, don’t be so sexist. Her “perfectly executed kick sailed 30 yards.”

I have no problem with females playing football but I agree that they go overboard with the stories. To me it seems like they are trying to make and keep it an oddity instead of a norm.

RE: 2020 Kent State Football Season
I knew what to expect when I saw her warming up with 12 yard FGs from the 2 yard line which are virtually impossible in competition. With that much power they supposedly called for a “squib kick” and lauded her for her perfect execution. I find it akin to if your abilities were limited to taking a snap and kneeling down that the team calls your number for one victory formation play and then everyone going nuts when you pull it off.

I heard some news this morning that the Miami game has been cancelled due to our players COVID test results.
