There appears to be a few WAC teams that live or die from the three point arc... Seattle, Cal Baptist, and to a lesser extent Utah Valley. When these teams are on target from the perimeter, they are all dangerous. When they are off, they are quite beatable.

GCU continues to look solid. Amazing what a Lopes team can do with a good coach. NMSU has a strong starting five but our bench is suspect at the moment. We should add two more players to our rotation (6'9 Mayan Kiir and 6'2 Kalen Williams) by the time we're in the thick of the WAC race. And, probably our most talented young player (6'6 Marcus Watson) a month before the WAC Tournament. So there is still much hope.

I must admit it is a strange feeling ACTUALLY beating lesser teams by the 30 point margin you are supposed to. GCU definitely has depth I haven't seen in my 9 years of rooting for them. When "calling off the dogs" in garbage time means the Lopes still have guys like Chance McMillian, Rashad Smith, Dima Zdor, and Sean Miller-Moore on the floor because that is the end of the bench, you know the roster is dramatically improved.

Well, Jabari Rice is out for 6-8 weeks with a foot injury. He is our best player. So NMSU will look pedestrian until it has its full compliment of players; probably not until the end of January.

First "real" test for Tarleton and Dixie tonight. Just not getting completely blown out would be a good showing in both games.

Well, team chemistry will still be an issue with a revolving door of players in and out. if NMSU doesn't have anymore health issues, Covid or otherwise, they should be at full strength before the WAC tournament. It remains to be seen where they will be in the WAC standings by then.

I've been happy with score. However We're playing sloppy and missing free throws.

Very un-Tarleton-like missing all those FTs 03-puke

Tuned in now to Dixie and North Dakota. Will try to catch some Cal Bap later as well. Too many games to watch tonight.

Frustrating loss but it's good experience.

When team plays defense as hard as Gillispie has Tarleton State playing, I expect the Texan players to miss a lot of their free-throws. The constant activity takes their legs and focus away when they're at rest at the free-throw line. NMSU used to have a trapping zone years ago under Neil McCarthy which cause a lot of turnovers but those teams could not their shoot free-throws very well because of their game intensity.

Edinburger might've had TAMU-CC thinking about UTRGVs game.
