This has nothing to do with whether Mooney is better than JJ or if JJ should be shown the door. Just find it funny that the most bitter ODU fans are using as their exemplar a team led by a coach whose fanbase was so fed up that they paid good money for a billboard begging the admin to fire him.

That’s what I’ve been saying. This is our year. If JJ can’t make something special happen with this experienced group of his players, with this many upperclassmen, then it’s time to just accept he’s not the guy to take us back to glory. This should be a top 100 if not top 50 team. I was hoping for even better than that. But here we are, worried about losing to NSU while UR fares well against KY and we get out butt kicked by MD. It’s just one loss, and there’s still plenty of season left. But it’s time to make something happen and this should be the team to do it. No excuses.
I can live with expecting a top 100 team. After 2 games, there is nothing to say this will or won't be a top 100 team.

Shouldn’t the same have been true for ODU vs MD?
Richmond's a top 25 team. ODU is not. Pundits were pointing to Richmond-UK as a trap game in the preseason. And Kentucky looked awful -- if Richmond's guards play to expectation, the Spiders win by 20+.

This was exactly my point a few posts ago.
Right or wrong, there is no way our administration would have kept Mooney around as long as UR has. No tournaments since 2011.

Richmond is probably the most conservative AD in the state. They spent forever playing football in dilapidated City Stadium, and when they finally moved on-campus, the stadium capacity couldn't surpass the Robins Center in order to make the neighbors not revolt. They would have needed a BT-style meltdown to force them to move; so long as the kids are graduating and they weren't at Fordham levels, they were OK with him.

And then they fell into Grant Golden and boom.
They are going to have to do some major rebuilding so there is a ton of pressure to win now. Kudos to them for knocking off Kentucky.

Wednesday 8:00 in Echols Hall: Norfolk State (2-0): WGNT.
Results to date: JMU (83-73); Radford (57-54).
Last game: NSU started hot while Radford went 0-12 FG, building a 20-5 lead. Radford finally found the range, but trailed 20-34 @ HT. Radford started the second half 10-2 and later used a 12-2 run to pull within one, even taking a brief 54-53 lead with 1:55, but NSU was more poised at the finish for the 3-pt win. NSU went 9-18 3s and scored 16 pts off 15 Radford TOs. Kashaun Hicks and Daryl Anderson both came off the bench to score 12 pts (6-10 3s combined) and Devante Carter had 10.

In spite of our ugly start, I still think we should have the talent to win this game. Its the intangibles of the cross town rivalry, playing there etc that make me more nervous. Im glad the arena should be empty. That may help us a lot in this particular game.

The difference is that our program has put all expectations of a season like Richmond is likely to have outside the realm of what is even considered reasonable. If JJ's highs were as high as Mooney's highs we would have a different conversation, but our highs are not high enough, or often enough, to justify the numerous mediocre and bad seasons in between.

What has Mooney at Richmond that Jeff Jones hasn't done? Now, I do expect them to have a good season this year but lets not act like they are a top 25 team (as of yet, maybe they get there and maintain it).
And speaking of lows, there low is "lower." How many "bad" seasons have we had? 1-2?

Chris Mooney took the Richmond job in 2005. In 16 seasons he's been to the NCAAs twice and the NITs twice (acknowledging he almost certainly would have gone to the NCAAs or NITs last season). Before that, the Spiders won 13 and 12 games in the last two full seasons. His record is a lot like JJ's over a longer period -- a couple of bad seasons, a couple of great seasons, and a bunch of respectable seasons that resulted in third-tier postseasons or nothing.
But he isn't at ODU so his program's gotta be better than ODU.

For what it is worth, Mooney's record against ODU during his time at Richmond is -
Against Taylor -
Wins - 5
Losses - 3
Against Jones -
Wins - 3
Losses - 4
