That is the rumor.

Are we just that broke that we decided not to schedule any more buy games? We don’t play until next Wednesday and immediately follow that up with the shootout vs X who will have 5 games under their belt.

We are broke af in the AAC.

No, the MTE well apart three different times. NIT, Orlando, and then Indy. Probably should have held one at UC with local teams but they tried to schedule quality games and it didn’t work out.

I believe the rumor going around is they had a scrimmage against another team and intrasquad game over the last week.

I guess the good news is that Xavier will have little video to scout from. It will the other way later in December as Tennessee lost all their early games and will now open with UC.

Schedule is a mess and will be a mess most of the year.

RE: 20-21 BBall schedule
Yep, i was surprised we didn't do a real game with Dayton given the bus trip and non overnight situation. Maybe both coaches didn't want to risk an ooc loss early? This season may be difficult to get the at large berths for the tourney assuming we have one due to cancels, lack of games etc. Be interesting to see what this all looks like in March. Football has worked out better than i expected. Plenty of cancels, but still a good season. The B10 and Pac screwed up with these late starts otherwise it would be fairly stable all things considered.

Not sure if they think the scrimmage provides more value. No one gets a loss but both coaches get a chance to see their team against real competition. I would love to see the series return in the future.

Some on this board aren't a fan of playing Dayton, but I'm always down to schedule them. The matchup gets more buzz than, say, scheduling a middling SEC team.

Yes, Dayton has a respected historic pedigree in basketball. I used to love the series which we generally dominated versus say the Miami Ohio games where I thought we had everything to lose and nothing to gain by playing them.

Agree, I think that would be a pretty awesome yearly series...and lord knows there's enough of a connection between coaching staffs that if they wanted to do it they could.

The connection could also be a motivation for not doing the series. Always depends on the personalities, but sometimes coaches who are close personally don't like playing each other.

Agreed...that's probably why they're so keen on these pre-season scrimmages instead of games for record.

Cincinnati Bearcats to open season against Lipscomb on Wednesday at 5 p.m. on ESPN+
Dave Clark
Cincinnati Enquirer

Tip-off times are set for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball team's first three games of the season, starting with a season opener Wednesday at 5 p.m. Eastern against the Lipscomb University Bison at Fifth Third Arena, televised by ESPN+.

After the Crosstown Shootout at Fifth Third Arena against the Xavier University Musketeers on Sun., Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. on ESPN, UC will have another 5 p.m. tip on Wed., Dec. 9 against Furman - also on ESPN+.

Lipscomb finished the 2019-2020 season 16-16 overall - 9-7 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. UC defeated the Bison, 91-68, the last time the two teams met in Nov. 2016.

Tip-off times for non-conference road games against Tennessee (Dec. 12) and Georgia (Dec. 19) have not been announced.

The multi-team event that reportedly had been scheduled in Indianapolis with the Bearcats, Duquesne and Loyola-Chicago will not be played, according to a report earlier this month from CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

I wonder if our game Wednesday will still be on TV; it is no longer listed on ESPN+'s schedule.

I thought home games had to be at least on + under the new TV deal.

Series pushed back a year. UC didn’t want to play the home game with no fans.

Why is UC playing 5:00pm games?

UC's website still says the Wednesday game is on ESPN+, but as was pointed out it's not on the ESPN+ schedule

Xavier game against Toledo scheduled for FS1 was cancelled for Covid problems with the production crew. It would seem to be too early for ESPN+ to be cancelling for similar reasons. Hoping maybe with all the cancellations ESPN is holding back listing exactly where it is shown. Maybe we might be moved to a regular ESPN channel.

Don't hold me to this but part of the new media deal with ESPN was that some-if-not-all ESPN+ broadcasts would be managed in-house by the school's athletic department. Again, not sure if that's 100% accurate or what the details are but when the women's team hosted NKU, that was managed by UC, although aired on ESPN+.

My uneducated guess is that these "who cares" games against Lipscomb and Furman may have been put on ESPN+ as a means for UC to manage their own broadcast, minimize COVID contact, and keep things as safe as possible from that perspective.
