Albany just cancelled its opener due to Covid, and DePaul has cancelled its first three games.

I really don't believe many NC games will be played that require an airline trip and overnight hotel stay. Maybe teams within bussing distance of each other can play, but Rick Pitino has the right idea - just postpone the whole season by a couple of months and wait until vaccines can start to be distributed.

Creighton, St Bonaventure, Binghamton, & Youngstown St just announced shutdowns today too.

May Madness is such an obvious solution. Have the conference tournaments in April. Leave February thru first half of April for conference season and Thanksgiving thru January for noncon.

Unless something dramatic happens to virus rates in the next couple of months, I don't think a viable CBB season can be saved. There are too many teams, too many games, and the virus will soon cause a logistical train wreck.

This isn't a cancellation but speaks to the weirdness of 2020-21 basketball scheduling: Western Michigan just released its OOC and it includes a game *at* Division 3 Trine on Nov. 28.

It is wishful thinking to think that COVID will not longer be forcing shutdowns in 2 months. Or in 6 months.

Even in a best-case scenario, we won't even have 20% of the country vaccinated in 6 months.

Give all the athletes and really old people the vaccine first. I work from home anyway. Selfish, yet not selfish at the same time.

Should be a busy week of games getting nixed this week. I thought this news was interesting. #2 Baylor's coach (Scott Drew) has covid so he's not making the trip to Mohegan this week for their opening tournament (the Empire Classic). But the rest of the team has tested negative, so Baylor will play with their associate head coach acting as head coach while Drew stays home.

But now Arizona State (Baylor's opening opponent in the tournament) says they're not going to play Baylor? I think they may still be traveling to Connecticut, but they just don't want to take their chances against Baylor?? Maybe they don't trust Baylor? The story mentions also how Florida has withdrawn from the tournament, so they are speculating ASU wants to take on Florida's schedule? Very odd story to say the least.

D1Docket says Charlotte is still headed to Knoxville; they're scheduled to play VCU there, and both were to play the Vols. Sounds like the Tennessee games are in trouble but not sure if they'd still let the VCU-Charlotte game take place.

Pitino doesn't have the right idea, and as someone who has made tens of millions of dollars off of basketball, he should know that money is the reason why March Madness ought to be played in March 2021.

Delay the start of the season, fine. If teams end up playing 16 games instead of 26, so be it. But finances dictate playing the tournament on its regularly scheduled dates. CBS and Turner will demand a substantial partial refund if the tournament is played at a different time of year with lower TV ratings, because their advertising revenue will be way down if the tournament dates are changed. Moving off of the regularly scheduled dates will cost hundreds of millions in TV revenue, in a year after the NCAA already lost about a billion dollars due to not playing the tournament at all, and in a year where they will also make little or no ticket revenue from the tournament.

CBS's Matt Norlander says that over 40 D-1 men's programs have suspended activities just 24 hours before the start of the season.

Northeastern paused athletics completely until Dec. 18, so all of their games until then are off.
