RE: Don’t look now but......
Having the opportunity to really watch both Coastal and Liberty today, I can say that I'm changing my mind on Liberty. I wasn't a believer of Liberty, but I think their defense is looking respectable at the moment, and being in position to improve to to 3-0 against the ACC is worth a tip of the cap (whether they hold on tonight or not).

Even though Coastal pulled out the win today, I think Marshall would easily handle them, largely because I think we'd absolutely dominate them on both sides of the line of scrimmage, just like we have basically shut down everyone including App State. I respect their offensive skill positions, but I'm not buying their bigs.

Going off just tonight, Liberty's defense is fast. And they seem to tackle well. After watching UNT (who actually had a good defense day for them)and Rice, I can say with certainty that Liberty's defense is on another level.

Liberty lost tonight on a blocked FG kick. They should have lost to VT on a blocked FG kick. Maybe the should pay more for a special team coach in the future...

But when all is said and done, I think I think Liberty is more legit moving forward than Coastal.

I think Costal will beat them. They are legit as well.

Liberty can outspend all of us for now. Its pretty much that simple.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I think Liberty is the more complete team top to bottom.

Put this way, I am confident that Marshall would handle Coastal in almost any matchup this season, mostly because of the undisputable disparity in line play on both sides of the line of scimmage. I am not certain Marshall would defeat Liberty straight up in all matchups this season.

At least in this case, Coastal is going to play Liberty on Dec. 5, so we will get some answer to this question. I suspect that we are likely to get the Coastal-Liberty winner in a bowl game as the great G5 consolation prize (which at this point I think is Liberty).

Is that Liberty's regular QB or did their real one get hurt or something? This one sucks....or at least sucked yesterday. Any kind of decent QB play and Liberty beats NC State by double digits.

Would the AAC extend a bid to Liberty?

(spoiler: they would not)

I agree with all this. Coastal Carolina is highly overrated.

So can Syracuse and Kansas, so what's your point? LOL

after playing both, I think CCU would beat Marshall. Chadwell is way more of a dynamic playcaller than Peterson, plus he's shown the ability to adapt to a defensive scheme. you might score more points than you did vs App, but CCU would score more as well.

The difference between Marshall and Coastal is we have a running game and they have allowed a lot of yardage on the ground this year. Plus our Defense is playing lights out.

Total Defense

We may get to put this theory to the test. We're likely to get Coastal in a bowl. However, I am fairly confident that we would move the ball much easier on them than they will move on us. We'd eat those lines of theirs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Unfortunately, that was our regular QB. Definitely the worse offensive game as a whole, and the worst performance of the year on his part. I think it's the first time the talent disparity got to him, he was rattled the entire time. He threw 72% in our other ACC games and then does 40% with 3 INTs here. It was a sad game to watch.

After I posted my comment I looked up his stats from previous games. Yeah, the NC State game was definitely sub-par. He seemed nervous, had happy feet, overthrew open receivers and never settled into the game. You would think with this being the 3rd game vs. a P5 this year, and the 9th game of the season, he would have been comfortable. Maybe the bigger picture got to him, IDK. Maybe he got to thinking, gee, we beat NC State and the sky's the limit for us, and he put too much pressure on himself. I don't know him, much about him, so I can't comment on any validity of his being nervous. But...he definitely looked it.

Yea, it's hard to say. But, this is the first time our OL has been dominated and unable to run the ball (which allowed them to drop more back in coverage to take away the pass), and then he found that he couldn't out-athlete the LB that was spying him when he scrambled. I think this pressure created the death spiral for him mentally. He played in garbage time for two years at Auburn, so this is the first game he has lost as a college starter and the first time he's experienced being overwhelmed by another team defensively. Not sure why VA Tech couldn't do the same thing, but whatever NCSU did, it worked.
