I know this is something which varies depending on the school this year, but what is your school’s situation about fans at basketball games?

College of Charleston is allowing 30% capacity to start the season (official capacity 1,436) with no band, cheerleaders or DJ to start.

Charleston Southern is no fans the entire season except for parents.

The Citadel is pretty normal, given their attendance numbers. I think they’re 30% as well.

What about your school?

NMSU can not even practice yet. They will go to the Tucson area and stay at a resort with a dedicated court just for them. Who knows what will happen in January.

Virginia Governor just mandated 250 max at sporting venues... JMU has come out and said that only friends and family of the program will be allowed at games. Unfortunate that it's our first season in a new arena

South Alabama:
- 20% capacity (around 2,000 fans)
- No walk up ticket sales, only reserved seating
- No more than 4 seats sold/grouped together
- No court-side seating
- The first seven rows of each section of the lower bowl have been taken out

Our AD tweeted a picture of the Mitchell Center, our basketball arena, with the set up and it looks strange. But we will have hoops!

I believe South Carolina is capping it at 3,500 or so.

I believe the CBB season will quickly collapse. Too many teams, too many games, will soon become a logistical train wreck.

Doesn’t sound like any of the IL teams allowing attendance to my knowledge. Guess I’ll drive down south to catch some new venues.

1600 allowed at TCU games. Season tickets and some students only. Groups of 4 spread out around the arena.

Basketball has much easier logistics than football.

You can only play one football game a week. And you have to reserve probably 60 or 80 hotel rooms for players, coaches, trainers, equipment managers, and cheerleaders. Hard to find a hotel with that many open beds on short notice.

And there's a lot of equipment to pack - they usually pack it up on Wednesday night to ship it for an away game. By Thursday morning it's already too late logistically to schedule a game for Saturday.

You can easily play 4 basketball games a week. You only need about 10-15 hotel rooms. And there's almost no logistical problems - you could probably schedule a game across the state for the next night with no problems.

There's also a lot more potential opponents in basketball. A lot easier to find schools close by to play.

Too late to set up a MTE here?

Auburn just announced they were at 20% for basketball.

I think it will look a lot like Football. Basically only conference play, but they may allow a limited number of warm up non-con games. So you might play an exhibition game against a nearby school or two to shake down before conference play.

All the preseason tournaments are cancelled. So for the Majors the only point for any non-con would be a shake down to get the team in order before the season. (The NBA only plays 5-9 preseason games, and really the starters only play a couple of those more than a few minutes, so you don't need a lot of games; just 2 is probably enough).

I think the top 10 conferences can handle it fairly well.

As for fans, with the new President and National standards coming, I suspect indoor Basketball will not even allow 25% capacity. You are looking at friends and family only. Biden has made no bones about wanting to take strong measures to get this under control. I do not mean this as a political comment (neither pro nor con here), just that leagues need to plan under the assumption that the laissez-faire approach of the Trump administration, which pushed procedural decisions down to the States on such matters is coming to an end in 59 days, and all will be under common standards. So we should think about the impact on stadium capacity plans, especially indoor.

Marshall will only allow 1,300. NO season tickets sold this year. Will have a lottery prior to each home game and only eligible participants are either prior year season ticket holders or current big green members.

I believe UAB is doing all the above as well.

I think Tennessee is going for either 20 or 25% capacity, similar to what they did for football.

I don't mean this as a political comment either.... but the President of the United States does not have authority to set a national policy on sports attendance restrictions.

We can't even get states to agree that the federal government has the right to set immigration policy or gun policy - and those are directly in the Constitution & its Amendments. The Constitution says nothing about health care or pandemics.

Bearcat you are following the constitution. But neither congress nor Presidents do that. Executive orders and compliance of congress allow all sorts of extra legal decisions with are enforced as "law."

Neither party has shown the slightest interest in being representatives, instead they are just factions wanting majoritarian rule by a POTUS of their choosing.

Really no reason to have any fans in attendance right now
