Utah does have Arizona State Nov. 28 and they lost two games to COVID so far so it wouldn't be impossible to see another.

I believe they can only play other PAC-12 schools that have a cancellation that week. Correct me if I am wrong if you can find a link. 07-coffee3

That's my understanding as well. The PAC has done a lot of things wrong with this, but allowing two teams that had games canceled on them to play as UCLA and CAL did was a great move. It would be even better if they permitted OOC games too.

The AAC is shuffling some schedule to accommodate Navy/Army. What if BYU and UC played? Could this open up the possibility of a CFP spot for either team?

I think that could really force the CFP hand. A game between BYU and UC could be between #7 and #8 in the country. Hard for the CFP to ignore that, it would be a better matchup than some of the P5 CCGs.

RE: BYU wants one or two more games
I think it would be really interesting to see UC play BYU. I'd be all for it. Play it at a neutral site on 12/5 (UC's Tulsa game would need to be moved to 12/12). You would get a metric ton of attention for that, and the winner would surely receive a lot of respect. When you are outside the power structure, you have to do extra to get noticed, so do it. If the committee ignored the winner of that game (UC would theoretically be 12-0, BYU 11-0), then I think you'd actually have a legitimate gripe that they were purposefully ignoring non-P5 teams, as opposed to just circumstantial evidence. UC/BYU's resume would be too good to ignore if that game were played.

RE: BYU wants one or two more games
The Pac-12 is hurtling toward a significant policy reversal after the athletic directors agreed this week to allow non-conference games if a league matchup is canceled because of COVID-19 issues, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the discussions.

However, the change requires approval from the presidents and chancellors, who had previously banned non-conference games for the 2020 season.

The presidents discussed the issue on Tuesday, sources said, but it is not known whether a vote was taken.

The ability to play non-conference games would help fill vacancies if an odd number of teams are healthy enough to compete in a given week.

Just go ahead and schedule them for December 19th; use the CCG TV time slot. The American can award a champion the old fashioned way and, if BYU loses before then, bounce them in favor of AAC #2. Heck, schedule BYU-Marshall on their open date and get a makeshift G5 play-in tournament going. Going undefeated through that would be better than 7-0 or 6-0 Oregon.

Agreed. Particularly if there is no clear cut Number 4 team (presumably from the PAC 12 or Big 12)

I think it will be harder for Cincy or BYU to get into the playoffs if both are undefeated. The CFP committee will not put both teams into the CFP maybe one can sneak in. If both are undefeated it will make it easier for the committee to skip over them and put in a one loss team from a P5 or a 7 win team from PAC. A game between them would increase the winners chances and also create a great game to watch.

Why should UC do any favors for BYU? UC still has to play a ranked Tulsa and UCF. Getting into the playoffs is the reason? Like that will happen. If UC continues to be successful in their schedule, nothing will keep UC out of the NY6 game.

Yes, the playoff.

IF BOTH teams finish undefeated: schedule the game (replacing AACCG, Tulsa and UCF will have had their shot and Navy is picking the Army game over finishing their schedule). Lay down this contingency now so the AAC #2 doesn’t feel jilted; AAC teams can continue to play “regular season” games on this date.

At that point Cincy is already a NY6 lock; don’t think Marshall/Coastal could jump them if they lost to a Top 5 BYU. And, both teams need a big, 12/19 win to stick it to the Committee and dare them to leave them out of the playoff.

If UC is happy with an NY6 game then sure, there's no reason to schedule BYU, as that can only hurt.

But if a better chance at the playoffs is the goal, then scheduling BYU could be very helpful.

Helpful? Coming from you I guess that is a step forward. Now tell us, does UC have any real chance at a playoff, with the money involved. If not, BYU just has to deal with it.

"Coming from me"? WTF? I think UC has a non-trivial chance to make the playoffs. It's not a good chance, not as high as some models say, but an undefeated UC maybe has a 15% chance to get in. That's something.

And a win over a top-10 BYU would boost that higher.

RE: BYU wants one or two more games
BYU's head coach has asked our AD to give him 1 week's notice of a game so they have time to game prep. So unless a game is announced in the next day or so, it appears this coming week could be another bye week. Most likely it will be a 12/5 game if an 11th is added. Army still has shown no interest in rescheduling. PAC10 list to qualify for a non-conference game makes it impossible. BYU would have to scrap the covid-19 testing that has worked great for them and adopt what the team considers a less good procedure (the PAC12 model), and then would be subject to cancellation all the way up to Thursday evening before the game should another PAC12 game get cancelled and they can reschedule between 2 PAC12 teams. That means all your game prep and travel arrangements could be for nothing--which isn't going to happen.
