Cincinnati and Under Armour Buyout
https://www.bizjournals.com/baltimore/ne...uyout.html
A "buy-out agreement" between Baltimore-based Under Armour and Cincinnati terminates a prior apparel deal five years before it was set to expire. The agreement, effective July 1, requires Under Armour to pay a $9.75 million exit fee to Cincinnati and provide $3.65 million worth of product through June of 2021.
TLDR:
-Under Armour's exit fee will be paid in eight installments due every three months. The first installment of $1,437,500 was due within 30 days of full execution of the buyout agreement, which University of Cincinnati Neville G. Pinto signed on Aug. 10.
-A second payment of $1,187,500 was due on Oct. 1. The final installment will be due by April 1, 2022.
-The Bearcats will likely continue to wear Under Armour products for the next three years.
-Under Armour will also continue to pay performance bonuses to Cincinnati under the product supply agreement

Also should note.. Alex Meacham is hinting at a Jumpman partnership on Twitter.

Woah...did not expect that even with the UCLA and Cal news, UA must be in real trouble.
Does Nike really see us as that much of a prime brand to throw their Jordan-brand hands on us again? At the moment, the only football programs on the Jordan brand portfolio are UNC, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Florida.

Could be Jumpman logo for basketball, Nike for everything else.

I'm going to guess that would be a significant drop in money over the course of the contract given Nike's last few deals...we're already hurting financially, I hope they use that buyout money well. I also hope that we don't get shitball football apparel like Nike has done for their non-premier names.

I have been slightly worried about the this deal since UA started cutting its losses. We had a pretty solid contract for a non premier team, and I am not sure someone is going to offer us more, or even the same, and I would not want to try and be making a deal during the pandemic.
I think 2006 was our last year with Nike, and my freshman year. There was never anything stellar about our uniforms. Adidas was fine, and it seemed they were doing a better job late in our run with them, but I think Under Armour really tried to make our brand unique.
I know some did not like the quality offered, but in my experience in non branded athletic wear...Nike and Adidas don't seem much better. I don't feel like Nike or Adidas will treat us as well as UA.

They won't...but most people only care about there being 4 black boxes on the sides of our basketball shorts, not the quality of the product they're buying or what any other jerseys look like.

Mark me as (apparently) one of the few who loves UA gear. Wasn't a huge fan of the lack of UC variety, but I wore UA gear before our sports deal with them, and I'll probably continue to wear it going forward.
The cash UA gave us each year is what's going to hurt the AD the most. We don't have enough revenue anyway, and this is taking one of the major streams away.
Hope Opie is ready to sharpen his pencil.

I know they spent 700 million buying some sports and fitness apps that had about 150 million users, and most of them were not even profitable.

Crazy thing is i have been highly critical of UA but the recent run of UC gear and uniforms is the best it has been in the partnership.
I felt the same about Adidas in that that got better as time went on.
Whoever is next better get it right early on.

Wonder how bad it really is at UA. I think we all knew this was a possibility. I always thought our UA deal was about the best we could expect in terms of revenue.

It was a big upgrade this year when they got rid of the stripe on the front of the uniform and put it on the side. Also really liked the alternate red jersey (with black sleeves).
I concur with those who express doubt about Nike/Jumpman paying us anything close to what UA has. Heck, Houston has a deal with them and they are only receiving apparel, no cash for the Jumpman deal. With UA sinking, Nike and Adidas now have a lot more flexibility to be tighter with the deals because there is no other competition for schools to go to.

I don’t see UC receiving the cash UA gave them but Nike or Adidas better get the branding right.
If it’s Adidas we better see a 2009 throwback in football and those 1961-1962 uniforms again.
If it’s Nike then Jumpman replicas based on late 90’s early 2000’s are a must. Maybe even a 2006 black football throwback look based on the win over Rutgers which is basically when the run started.

RE: Cincinnati and Under Armour Buyout
This year's jerseys are the best football jerseys I've seen at Cincinnati since the old tribal red ones in the early 00's, and the single best football jersey I've ever seen a Cincinnati team wear was the throwbacks last year. UA killed it for me...Adidas was an absolute nightmare, and Nike was good for the consumer even if most of their stuff was cheap.

While the memories were nice, those were some of the most generic jerseys out there, and I hated them aesthetically.

I think the oversized C-paw on the sleeve of this year's jersey looks hideous. I don't mind the triangle stripes and the throwbacks (especially the baseball throwbacks) were really well done.

Well one good thing is our football "brand" and exposure is about as high as we could possibly have hoped given where we were at four years ago. It will be interesting to see what plays out, but Fickell and his guys have at least advanced that piece of the pie and gotten us more media exposure than i would say we expected. I wonder if Fickell has connections with Nike from his Osu days.

Alex Meachum has talked about this before on his podcast, but UC's tie-in with Nike is through former Huggins player Jamaal Lucas, who is now high up the food-chain for the Jordan Brand.
