Hulu + Live TV jumps to $65/month
https://techcrunch.com/2020/11/16/hulu-w...mber-18th/

Another blow to cord cutters seeking affordable sports programming.

Hulu + Live TV will continue to carry local ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC affiliates, TBS, TNT, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, ACCN, SECN, BTN, FS1, FS2, CBSSN, NBCSN, Golf, The Olympic Channel and the NBC RSNs. They lack most other RSNs, including the Fox/Sinclair RSNs (which holds rights to ACC and CUSA game packages), as well as NFL Network, MLB Network, NBA TV and Pac 12 Network.

In raising the price, it follows increases earlier this year made by YouTube TV and Fubo TV.

With respect to value, it appears to me that the Max package offered by AT&T TV Now (formerly AT&T TV Now) offers the best value for those wanting the most complete suite of sports channels. Although it costs $80/month, that price includes HBO Max and Cinemax, essentially for only $15. It includes the most complete group of RSNs, including the RSNs for 19 of the top 20 TV markets. Like Hulu, it does lack NFL Network, MLB Network, NBA TV and Pac 12 Network.

For a more limited package, Vidgo is an excellent deal. It lacks any RSNs, as well as TBS and TNT with their important sports packages, including the NCAA tournament. Its $45 package, though, has an extensive suite of sports channels, as well as local ABC and FOX affiliates.

These OTT services are the same thing as cable/satellite now. Only difference is you can subscribe/cancel in minutes and don’t need to have someone come install wiring at your residence. Cable and Satellite companies are missing a huge opportunity to dial back some of their fees and equipment charges.

Over priced garbage. The most I’d pay for basic Fall sports is like $20, $10 for spring sports (maybe $5 extra for local programming or conference network).

Besides, Yahoo streams NFL games for free. Who the hell would pay this much for college football?

I pay 180 a month for sports and the weather channel (my wife loves that station). 03-nutkick I tried to cut the cord and I was happy and saved a grip of money, but we did not get the weather channel.

Side-note, Xfinity is awful.

RE: Hulu + Live TV jumps to $65/month
We are now entering the zone where the teaser rate from cable is appreciably cheaper when bundled with internet. The non-teaser rate is still more though. If you split streaming accounts with a friend then streaming still wins hands down. If you have a house that would require a lot of converter boxes and thus you'd use all your streaming capacity you still probably win hands down streaming because of the damn converter box rental fee. The best solution for the best price now if you need lots of streams is Cable+CableCARD. Just be prepared for your cable company to be a glacial pita to deal with to get the CableCARD. If you don't need lots of streams then shared streaming accounts is the way to go. If you're willing to invest in a home router/switch that can do VLANs you can internet share with your neighbor and really really drive the price down. I know people who share internet and streaming between adjacent houses. That gets you internet and streaming services for like $75/mo. That's a winner.

And if you're listing price for you include the cost of your internet service and the high likelihood that your ISP is charging you more for only having internet and nothing else.

Yep my teaser rate I think was 119 a month and now it has climbed. I just do not feel like switching again so I am letting it roll.

When I cut the cord I had Philo and Youtube TV. Which was 75 bucks a month, plus Amazon prime and Netflix. Which mad my bill very close to the teaser rate.

I pay about $235 a month for internet service, cable TV and some streaming (Disney bundle and Netflix). I can live with that.

yeah.. I've been to lazy to really give cord cutting a shot..I'm still locked in with my Verizon Fios package which includes LHN for me here in VA. If I could somehow get the Fox regional channels (FSSW) and the PAC network, i'd be set for all sports

I bought DIRECTV Now when it first came out so I got the special package and been grandfathered in so I get MLBN, NBA TV, over 100+ channels plus I get FOX Sports West, Prime Ticket, Spectrum SportsNet and SportsNet LA here along with HBO Max for free. I pay $65/mo so I still keep the package. But eventually if I move, I'll switch to Spectrum since I can get Internet & Cable TV for $80/mo and I have AT&T Wireless so I still get HBO Max for free though maybe I keep AT&T TV Now and switch to Verizon Wireless since they offer Hulu (Ads), Disney+ & ESPN+ with their service.

That's the big kicker. The equipment fees are almost the same amount as the price of cable itself. There is no need to charge for the equipment.

Yeah, I'm surprise the cable companies haven't just started promoting their Apps. Spectrum you can just get an app to watch your TV, makes more sense. But that's how they really make the money is the equipment fees.

You can get The Weather Channel with the Frndly TV service for under $10/month

Yes, but they do not offer that app standalone. You can only use it with someone else’s credentials or your own, which means you already have cable.

I have them for internet only and at one time they offered 10 channels I could pick and choose from for $15, it included the broadcast networks, so I was interested. $15 turned into $30 after a mandatory “broadcast networks fee” for another $10. So with taxes and fees, it was $30, which killed my interest. If they were just straight up about the cost, they might get more customers. But they continue to fee customers to death.

Thanks, I will try to convince my wife but she loves the convenience. But if they get the weather channel I may have a chance!

YouTube TV + Internet is still cheaper than bundling cable for me here in Athens.

Also, I'd pay well over a $100 more for streaming than going back to cable just for the convenience of not dealing with idiots via phone or face-to-face.

Curious for people who live in rural areas....are there reliable internet/streaming TV services where you are just plug in a router. Who are they providers and what is the cost?

Not nearly as many. My area has about 4,000 people and we have one choice if we want fast internet. If I want slower broadband I can go local and pay 30 more a month.

How much is fast and how much is slow? Is the connection from a telephone pole on a street to the house?

My internet is 500, my local choice is 200 I believe. Ours is from the telephone pole. I am in the middle of nowhere in the mountains.
