A Change Of Seasons By Keith Morehouse

Excellent hour and half piece done by WSAZ Sports Director Keith Morehose, who is the son of the late Gene Morehouse who was the voice of the Thundering Herd at the time, Gene Morehouse perrised on the plane that fateful day.

Keith has had offers over the years to be sports anchors and directors at bigger and more powerful stations than WSAZ but he has turned them all down to stay in Huntington because as he says "Im finishing what dad started".

The last 5-7 mins is something no one had seen before. The whole call of the ECU game by Gene Morehouse and was synced up to the video of the ECU game. I had herd the call and seen the video before but not together. Its surreal, eerie and inspiring all at the same time.

Goodness I am getting old. I recognize my fraternity brother Ted Shoebridge; Art Harris who I had classes with at the MU College of Business and Marcelo Lajterman who was in another fraternity with one of my best friends. I can't recognize the the others. All those in the picture would be in their 70's today. Rest in peace my good friends.

I remember watching the Marshall-Toledo game in the Glass Bowl earlier that season. I purchased a football program and in subsequent weeks after that terrible crash, would page through looking at pictures of Herd players/coaches thinking what a tragic loss, and to all the families.
I have always admired the resiliency in the Marshall program and community to bring it all back together with the success and continuity they have seemed to foster over the years...

I still have family in Huntington and my relatives are close friends with Keith. I have had dinner with Keith many times and he always ask me questions about the plane crash since I was a student at the time of the crash. Keith was only 5 years old at the time of the crash and always want to know the details from the people who lived the experience. His Mother did an excellent job of raising him.

His older sister, Gail, I’m sure helped. She taught with my mother for years at St. Joseph. She is a fantastic lady also.

One correction, Keith was 9 at the time. He is now 11 years older than his dad when his dad passed away. I myself would have been the age of Gene Morehouse, who was 48 at the time.
