Discussing Covid on a message board only works when you're using it to derail a thread and not just openly talking about it.

Sad.

I agree. My only issue is with one poster who constantly posts factually inaccurate things regarding COVID and masks, sprinkled in with some racist conspiracy theories to top it off.

I have no problem with people having disagreements, but his posts cross the line to me.

I’m becoming more and more convinced that we are in the last 2-3 weekends of 2020 college football. And I’m VERY concerned about basketball.

Couple of things. This was said at the beginning of the outbreak in the US. Believe it or not, information changes as we learn more. Secondly, his primary reason for saying this was bc we wanted to be sure there wasnt a shortage of masks for healthcare workers. If you dont want to wear a mask, fine. Just stay away from the general public.

You can't have it both ways. Either:

A) The "experts" didn't have enough information about a respiratory illness (that I remember reading about as far back as November) to come the the earth-shattering conclusion that masks would serve as a prophylactic against. I mean, we have photos and stories from 1919 of masks being mandated during the Spanish Flu pandemic, so it wasn't exactly rocket science. Hell, even the medical science repository known as Blazertalk would tell you that masks are the bee's knees. This option means we might question our faith in the "experts.

B) The "experts" like His Excellency Fauci knew from the outset that masks were necessary, but they willing LIED to the American public. You yourself suggest this in your response. You say they did it to save masks for healthcare workers. I think that is a CYA argument, but okay. The fact remains that the LIED to the American public- they didn't say "don't hoard medical masks, improvise or make masks"- Fauci said DON'T WEAR A MASK, IT ISN'T NECESSARY. If masks are as great as you say, then how many lives lost are to be contributed to the fact that the "experts" told us not to wear them? Don't they have blood on their hands? When are they required to answer for this? This option also makes us question our faith in the "experts."

B) The reason why Fauci said initially way back in February that mask were not necessary. Probably should have just said he wasn't certain if a mask was necessary.

But this is a matter of common sense. Fauci amended his statement about wearing a mask in March. So for freaking 8 months it has been preached and proven that an effective mask helps slow the spread of the virus. If people want to harp on what was said in February and play the "Butt butt butt he said" card then you're that person that will simply look for any excuse not to wear a mask.

It's not rocket science people. You're being asked to wear a mask to prevent spreading this virus to another person; not because liberals want to take your religion, guns, and pro-life choices away from you.

1)it is a new virus,no one had previous immunity toward this virus
2)everyone will get infected from it
3) some will died from it , some will get permanent sequel form it , but the great majority wont have any issue
4) a vaccine will protect you if the virus doesnt mutate

how to protect yourself from it
a) dont get it or
b) get it and survive from it and be better protected if the virus doenst change too much
c) a vaccine can be very helpful for the specific population at risk if the viurs doesnt change
d) stop watching the news because you gonna get crazy information from pseudo expert , read whole medical article about this subject

This is garbage. And to be clear, I'm not here arguing about the effectiveness of masks, but about the dick sucking of the "experts." The idea that "they didn't know enough about" the virus is garbage. It is, after all, a coronavirus, which we've known about for decades. Hell, the common cold is a coronavirus. And the 60 Minutes video I posted was not from February, but from MARCH. They knew this was a coronavirus in November. They knew how a coronavirus spreads. The issue was that this one was novel, and so the human body did not have natural immune response to it. We have been blasted with rhetoric about "listening to the experts," but apparently they didn't know what they were talking about at the outset, or they deliberately mislead us. Again, we knew a century ago (apparently) that masks were a necessary measure. We've seen the now famous picture of the soldiers at teh Georgia Tech game wearing masks. Yet in 2020 Fauci said what he said on 60 Mintues. The issue I have is people like you telling us what "isn't rocket science" when the man who is supposed to be the Wizard of all this didn't see this simple fact. So, again I will ask- how many lives are we to place at his feet for making this statement on the news program of record?

I’m just trying to figure out why someone who falsely tests positive, then 25 people are added as probable. Then none of it gets retracted because it still has a political and narrative benefit. Hey, Saban was able to carry on about his business but all of these kids have to sit without getting a next day retest.

Every mainstream media network removed covid from their page display when they thought the election was solidly in favor of their candidate. Election Fraud news starts breaking and covid is back to being the topic of discussion with complete ignorance of 2 vaccines. They ignored the therapeutics news and now they’ll do the same with vaccines. The flu and pneumonia have gone nonexistent, too. Apparently.

Insightful and informed response. That is the problem with all this- someone makes a valid point you disagree with, you don't have a good response, so find a pithy gif that blows the other person off as being a tin hat nut who isn't smart enough to understand it all. Go back and sit at the kids' table, the grownups are talking...

Let me pivot away from the failure of the "experts" to some of our reactions to this pandemic. There is so much of what we have done that is absolutely, completely, utterly detached from reality. Case in point:

Back in the spring, when we instituted the idiotic, so-called lockdowns. In my hometown there is a family jeweler. Been in business for about three generations. It's a small place, but a nice place, where pretty much all my family has shopped for 75 years. It's the guy who owns it, his wife, and they usually have a couple of high school girls who work the counter. Go in there at any given time, and there MIGHT be one other person in there shopping. Christmas time is the exception, obviously. This spring the government told them they had to close, you know, to stop the spread of the Wuhan. A mile down the street Wal-Mart is wide ass open, parking lot full, lined up out the door. Now I understand you can't close Wal-Mart because people have to buy groceries. But why was the jewelry store closed? Or the clothing boutique around the corner? I could buy clothes at Wal-Mart, but not at the boutique. Where is the logic in that? There is none, because the decision to close them was detached from reality.

I heard a guy on the radio the other day who is a high school basketball ref, can't remember which state. Said they've got some rule changes this year. To start the game, they aren't going to have a tip-off. Visiting team just gets the ball to start the game. Guess there's a danger of spreading the Wuhan at the tip-off. Now, they haven't outlawed man-to-man defense, so I guess it will only spread during the tip-off.

Nevada allowing casinos to open at 50% capacity, but houses of worship had a maximum occupancy of 50 people, regardless of the size of the facility.

I can do this all day. Look, I'm not here to argue this virus isn't real and isn't dangerous. But it is easier for someone like you to paint me as saying that, because then it is easier to disregard what I am actually saying. A lot of people in this country are sick and f*cking tired of the smug attitudes of people like you who act like you know it all. You don't. And neither do the "experts." And I'll repeat it again- either Fauci wasn't nearly as sharp as he's been portrayed, or he lied to the American public and cost lives. Or more likely, somewhere in the middle.

But my main point here is that or reaction to all this has been a level of hysteria and overreaction. Many things that have been done are the right call. Not having 75,000 people in a football stadium? Good call. Bringing the world's largest economy to a grinding halt? Not so much.
