When your coach makes the statement about 7 days from the start of the season "this teams offense could be as good as the 2015 and 2016 Western offense"

Now let me compare the 2

2015 & 2016 44.3 and 45.5 ppg and 7.3 and 7.6 yards per play and thats with basically shutting it down around 7 minutes left in the 3rd qt

2020 15.2 ppg 4.4 yards a play

In my opinion a coach that made the quoted statement....shouldn't even be 3rd string

So against our defense that translates into roughly 28 points and 7.2 yard per play

It seems obvious to me that WKU is just playing against much better defenses in this covid-19 season 04-jawdrop <the previous statement includes a very large dose of sarcasm>

I play up how awful this Western team is but I honestly believe with a average QB that plays under control and can read a defense and make mostly correct decisions. This would have been a 7 to 8 win season and the chance for another win in a bowl game . Last year would have been a 4 or 5 win season without Duncan getting hurt. Storey was just a avg QB that made good decisions and took what the defense gave him.

Who ever wins on Saturday will not surprise me...Western has trouble scoring and S. Miss has trouble stopping teams from scoring. Plus S. Miss is turnover prone

You hit the nail on the head. I would say that almost all of the issues we have had this year come from very, very poor QB play. No down field passing ability, can not read the defense. I can not tell you how many times we've had wide open receivers running down the field and he throws into double coverage and behind the receiver.
If I were the coach I would bench Piggy the rest of the year and start one of the freshman. You have NOTHING to lose. A freshman can play the remaining game and not use up a red-shirt.

Welp, not only is Abraham out for this game, he's out for the remainder of the year. Also, I think our backup QB might be out this game...which means 3rd stringer WVU-transfer Trey Lowe III will more than likely start.

With all the preseason opt-outs and others who have left the team that we possibly didn't hear about, there's a good chance we about as many walk ons as we do scholarship players.

Doubtful...he struggled last week vs FCS NORTH FREAKING ALABAMA...WKU wins this one easily:

USM 13
WKU 31

Yeah, he seems like a great guy, but he is not a QB. He should move to another position or we should run the option with him.

.
The WKU defense is not that bad actually. Watch me say that and USM explodes for 500+ but we are 5th in yards allowed, in CUSA, if you throw out Rice with only 2 games. Basically tied with UAB for 1st in passing yards allowed. We held BYU's QB to a season low of 224 yards and 56% completion rate.
The issue is the offense, they just can't produce points and a lot hinges on mediocre QB play. Only Syracuse and Kansas are producing less yards per game of the teams that have played at least 6 games.

Lowe is without question the most talented QB on the team. He is a little rough around the edges but with enough reps, etc., he could be a VERY good QB. He should get better every game and gained some confidence last week and settled down as the game went on. His numbers would have been much better without some key drops that hit a few guys in both hands. Big, fast, smart kid with a cannon.

I hope you are proven correct. Against the FCS team he had the slowest throwing motion I've ever seen.

Whoever gets the S.Miss job has a uphill battle because if Western had a below avg qb this would be over with. Piggy can not read a defense and he's late on 90% of throws. No coach is going to step in and turn it around without a overhaul of talent. From past seasons the lack of speed is glaring. Western is not very good but just a average qb and this Western team is 7 to 8 wins after a bowl game. Gore Jr is a player but the QB looks as bad if not worse than Piggy...thats saying a lot. The S. Miss defense is awful....

here is how bad it is for Southern Miss: for the first time, EVER, in the 35 years that I have been following my alma mater . . . .

their sideline girls are hotter than ours.

how far we have fallen . . . . . .

that could be a game changer. perkins obliterated a few guys on the way into the end zone.

the WKU guy that got tossed; is that a key loss?

If Perkins was 10 lbs lighter that is a USM TD.
