Tracking restriction situations for each WAC basketball team
Quote:Cal Baptist
County: Riverside (Riverside, California)

Cal Baptist has had an average daily case count of 13.9 per 100,000 in its county throughout the past two weeks, and the team currently has the green light from its state to practice.

One ongoing question is whether or not fans will be able to attend games once the season begins, though. The state made it possible for fans to attend outdoor pro sporting events on Oct. 20, but no word has been given for college basketball.

In terms of scheduling, Cal Baptist is ahead of the curve. The Lancers released their full slate last Friday, which includes Power 5 games against USC and Arizona. That game against the Wildcats is Cal Baptist's only non-conference game that won't be played in The Golden State.

Chicago State
County: Cook (Chicago, Illinois)

Chicago State has had an average daily case count of 36.6 per 100,000 in its county throughout the past two weeks, and the team has the go-ahead from its state to practice.

The Cougars are following NCAA protocols, and players are receiving daily COVID-19 wellness check forms. No decision has been made when it comes to fan attendance once the season begins, though.

In terms of scheduling, the Cougars released their full slate on Thursday. The team expressed its desire to limit travel as much as possible, and it achieved that by only setting up two non-conference games outside of Illinois. Both of those matchups are in Iowa.

Dixie State
County: Washington (St. George, Utah)

Dixie State has had an average daily case count of 42.2 per 100,000 in its county throughout the past two weeks, and the team currently has approval from its state to practice.

The Trailblazers are testing weekly while following NCAA protocols, and they're remaining hopeful that they'll be able to have some fans in attendance this season. No official decision has been made just yet, though.

In terms of scheduling, Dixie State released its full slate last Monday. The Trailblazers will only travel out of state twice for non-conference play, and they have two notable games against Gonzaga and Utah State on the schedule.

Grand Canyon
County: Maricopa (Phoenix, Arizona)

Grand Canyon has had a daily average of 15.9 cases per 100,000 in its county throughout the past two weeks, and the team is currently able to hold practices.

Grand Canyon announced on Friday that fan attendance during games will be "limited to a lowered capacity of on-campus students," but an exact number hasn't been given.

In terms of scheduling, the Lopes have not released their full slate just yet. One notable non-conference matchup already set is a home game against Arizona State, though.

New Mexico State
County: Doña Ana (Las Cruces, New Mexico)

New Mexico State is the only WAC team not allowed to practice right now, and it's one of only four Division I teams in the country not able to take to the court.

The Aggies are unable to practice or compete until their county has a 14-day average daily case count of less than eight per 100,000 and a test positivity rate of under 5 percent. Doña Ana county currently has 57.9 cases per 100,000 and a test positivity rate of 16.6 percent.

New Mexico State isn't practicing any time soon as a result, at least not in Las Cruces, and no timeline has been given for the release of its non-conference schedule either.

Seattle
County: King (Seattle, Washington)

Seattle has had an average daily case count of 9.7 per 100,000 in its county throughout the past two weeks, and the team is currently allowed to practice.

No updates have been given on fan attendance for this season, although there is some news in the scheduling department.

Seattle released its full slate of games on Friday, and seven of the 11 non-conferences games are set to be played out-of-state. These games will take place in Oregon, Nevada and California.

Tarleton State
County: Erath (Stephenville, Texas)

Tarleton State has had an average daily case count of 16.1 per 100,000 in its county throughout the past two weeks, and the team is currently practicing.

No official decision has been made yet for fan attendance, but the Texans are remaining hopeful that spectators will be allowed in some capacity.

In terms of scheduling, Tarleton State has not released its full slate. The team has been scheduling aggressively so far, though, with three Power 5 matchups set against Gonzaga, Texas A&M and Kansas.

Texas-Rio Grande Valley
County: Hidalgo (Edinburg, Texas)

UTRGV has had an average daily case count of 14.4 per 100,000 in its county throughout the past two weeks, and the team is currently practicing.

The Vaqueros also announced on Thursday that they will allow fan attendance this season. The capacity is limited to 255 fans made up of only UTRGV students, season ticket holders, corporate partners and families of student-athletes and coaches.

The Vaqueros also released their full schedule on Thursday. UTRGV faces two Power 5 teams in Texas and Texas A&M, and all non-conference games will be played in The Lone Star State.

Utah Valley
County: Utah (Orem, Utah)

Utah Valley has had an average daily case count of 59.4 per 100,000 in its county throughout the past two weeks, and the team is currently able to practice.

After experiencing a shutdown back in August, head coach Mark Madsen announced during last week's WAC Media Day that the entire team recently tested negative for COVID-19. No announcement has been made in regard to fan attendance during this season.

In terms of scheduling, Utah Valley hasn't released its full slate just yet. The team has scheduled two premier non-conference games against Stanford and BYU, though.

1200 fans max for Tarleton home games and no fans in the lower section.

I'm actually being serious with my question, but doesn't your gym only hold about that much? Seems like it would essentially be a full gym.

Officially it holds 2500 which is a pre COVID number.

1200 is higher than I would have guessed we would allow. Seems like fans may not be spread out very much.

Top sections hold quite a bit more than lower level normally. Plus, 2500 total is with a very wide seat for each person in the top sections.

If the pictures from the Midnight Madness are any indication, they haven't quite figured out the whole social distancing just yet down in Wherever, TX.

RE: Tracking restriction situations for each WAC basketball team
I know the article that this came from said Chicago State hasn’t made a decision on home attendance; however, when they released their schedule there was a blurb about not having fans at this time.

“The 2020-21 schedule is tentative and subject to change. Given current state and local guidelines for COVID-19, fans and media will not be allowed to attend Cougars home games, which is also subject to change.”

In short: Today was nothing but a show trial that resulted in nothing happening.

Right now, the Aggies are the bell cow for the WAC. We all need you at your best and this requires practice.

The team has not practiced in nearly a month. At this point NMSU should forgo Non conference play and hopefully prepare for conference play.

RE: Tracking restriction situations for each WAC basketball team
I am a little conflicted about the Governors decision. On one hand, I understand in the bigger scope of this Pandemic, college athletics in secondary when people are dying daily. But on the other hand, I wish these young men & women (Aggie basketball team and other sports) had the same opportunity to compete like what is allowed in other states. However, this does spell as to why college athletics is not very strong in the State of New Mexico. Our State Government is not (has never been) fully committed (financially) to college athletics like in other States such at Texas, Utah, and Arizona.

Well considering rural Texas and combined with college kids, not surprised.

To be clear, NMSU is and always has been "practicing". As long as they adhere to 5 kids to one coach edict, then they can practice. What they can't do is contact drills, 5 on 5 or any other drill with more than 5 kids at a time. The team should be in shape come November 25th.

At least your UNM game (assuming you get to play it) will be against a team with similar restrictions.

Anything we can do to help provide safe, legal practice activities? How about we send tapes of Javon mouthing off and your players could practice breathing steadily and keeping their fists unclenched?
