Facility sell out JMU athletic fund raiser
Not sure if anyone noticed this but JMU is doing something a little creative.

https://jmusports.com/splash.aspx?id=splash_11

I like the promotion Mason is running. (I know tons of athletic teams are doing this)

Thoughts?

Just bought a couple for basketball. I like the cut out idea too and it allows for some cool stuff like cut outs for famous alumni.

Are they offering cutouts? I haven't seen that. Would very likely buy, if offered.

The cutouts are something George Mason is offering.

I do want to help JMU Athletics, but this isn’t all that creative. I’d like to see cutouts. Lot more incentive & despite the labor/materials cost, would probably bring in a ton more money than the current campaign.

I would have preferred they play UNC too, but it’s on the edge of unreasonable (for me!) to throw that in Bourne’s face as they try to fundraise. Sometimes you get stuck playing things out a certain way due to other’s decisions. I haven’t dug around too much about the timeline of our FB season cancellation, but think we should give them credit for at least trying to go on after the CAA bailed.

The same thought crossed my mind too but Hyper's rational thought process mat be the way go here.

We all know covid is causing havoc on budgets, here is to hoping that JMU does not lean on covid challenges for lierally, the rest of our lives on why we are CAALYF

I’m not even arguing it’s not a valid point. I just don’t think it’s deserving of too much scorn.

Was I the only one when I saw this news that thought- can we sell these minerals and fund a move to FBS?

Agree. This collection is unbelievably beautiful. I definitely want to see it. I had no idea that JMU had such a museum.

Will have to stop by sometime and check it out. Looks like a very nice exhibit when all set up.

Just a light hearted joke. I didn’t realize that only 25% of universities have geology programs. Wonder if this will draw more professors to the Geology program.

The last couple of years I’ve taken my sons to JMU during this past weekend which coincided with a teachers conference. We’d see a football game and hoops game stay at Hotel Madison get a guest pass at Urec check out a show at the planetarium have brunch at the new dining hall, go to the library and a bunch of other stuff - with Covid we weren’t able to make the trip this year but next time we’ll seek out the geology/mineral display as well.

Not sure if they are planning to change it, or have in the last 8 years, but the "museum" is a 10 foot by 10 foot room in Memorial.

I think the article mentioned it is housed in Festival now.

Yeaaa I got bored about 5 paragraphs into that article and did not scroll far enough down to the picture of the museum. It is much nicer than the room I went to.
