(11-02-2020 12:34 PM)Tom in Lazybrook Wrote: My guess is that theres some home teaming going on from sports writers that are favorable to LU.
2 teams blown out by South Alabama (an awful USM team and winless ULM)
A D2 to FCS reclassifing team
An awful Syracuse team
A 2 pt win over a winless FIU team that has a FCS loss
A 6 point win over an awful WKU team. WKU scored more points against LU than any other team.
Every team they beat has a losing record. None has more than 2 wins. No team they beat has a win over a team with a winning record. They will all finish with a losing record.
Current FBS record of LU opponents...3-24. And they have 2 losses to FCS teams.
They beat USM, Syracuse, FIU, ULM, WKU, and No. Ala. These teams have collectively beaten Ga Tech, MTSU, and UNT. That is all.
The 3 teams that LU beat have wins over teams with FBS combined record of...4-13, with no team with more than 2 wins. All will finish with losing records.
Their current ranking in the Sagarin is below Troy and 4-3 UAB. Its in the 70s.
This will resolve itself quickly. No need to get too angry here. But now I know the sports writers that are willing to risk their reputation to boost an unqualified school.
Welcome back Tom! Yeah, I made this same point last week. Liberty is undefeated, but they haven’t played any decent teams. How many other SBC teams would be undefeated with that schedule? They’ll have their chance against some good teams on the back half of their schedule (Virginia Tech, NC State, and Coastal Carolina). They also have two more baked in wins in UMASS and a second FCS team WCU (playing their first game). We will see what kind of team they are over the next few weeks.

COVID-19 changed everyone’s schedule this year. How many of these games were scheduled before COVID-19 forced everyone into reworking their schedule?

8 of our 11 were originally on the schedule.

I think Liberty is a Top 50, maybe Top 40 team. It's good press for them though. They play VT this weekend, so we'll see how they good they actually are.

RE: Liberty ranked but not the Cajuns?
Here's the deal:
1) We're playing a P5 at their place in what a lot of people expect to be a major loss for us. If the national media can choose between ranking a G5 that can't help a P5 move back into the Top 25 vs a G5 that could, who are they going to choose? Just look at how quick they are to move Auburn back into the Top 25 despite two wins that are a blown call away from losses.
2) We are undefeated after 6 games (including over a P5) with one of the P5 conferences yet to play, whether our oppenents' records are great or terrible. And for those who complain about our schedule this year being weak, we threw together our first few seasons in a very fast-paced manner when we were awarded a move-up. This was the last of those schedules we had to fully put together in the move-up. Of the games we have played thus far, the only one that wasn't originally scheduled was UNA.The rest of our schedule is significantly stronger, & that is where we have the chance to prove our worth, or prove we only earned it because of our opponents.

And I will be an LU fan this week and I hope they drub the hell outta VT. I root for the G5 almost every time vs P5's, and of course, I root for the Belt every single time vs both G & P 5's. DRUB 'EM Liberty!

Yes I feel Louisiana should be ranked and ahead of Liberty. That does not take away from a great win for Liberty. congrats!

We have looked like garbage in every game. We are 6-1 but not a single win has been impressive. Now, we have played a daily tough schedule, but we have looked sloppy. Contrary to popular belief, the eye test matters. We do not pass the eye test.
I also believe the Cajuns would beat Liberty if we played this season. It would just be another ugly performance.

Yes. Absolutely. 100%.
Compare the resumes and it is undeniable.

Agreed.
Great win for the Flames, but I think there are several teams in this league that could play a coin-flip game with Va Tech.

Circling back here. This team is for real. Hate it or love it, but it’s real. 2+2 = 4...you may hate that, but at the end of the day, it is true.

Good win for Liberty but a 3 point win against a middle of the road ACC team is much different from beating a Top 25 team by 17, and losing to another Top 25 team by 3 points.

Two wins over the two teams in the top of the Big 12 standings. The Big 12 certainly isn't great but the ACC outside of Clemson and Miami is trash.

And that is the truth, the Big12 is very transparent, except for Kansas, anyone can beat anyone. ACC is Clemson and the rest of the conference trips over their own feet.
