SMU kicker wins it for the Mustangs. SMU is a very solid team (as is Tulane, for that matter), but I'm not sure the Ponies are Top 20-esque. But they are worthy of being ranked in the Top 25 given they are now 5-0.

Willie Fritz is cursed when it comes to big games.

GS vs NCST 2014 - 24-23
GS vs GT 2014 - 42-38
GS vs UGA 2015 - 23-17 OT

All tragic losses.

RE: General Game Discussion, October 14-17
My view after watching Tulane nearly beat a Top 20 team at home and Coastal pulling off the upset against Louisiana this week is the single biggest thing preventing a G5 program from not pulling off Top 25 wins is not playing Top 25 opponents.

The whole CFP/NCAAT argument is about ranking schools according to who they beat is completely biased toward having that opportunity.

The bluebloods are the bluebloods but if you share a conference with them the chance is always there to knock them up. With the exception of SEC football where the entire conference recruits at a higher level its mostly about having the cracks at it, particularly in basketball where its double round robin and the chances of winning at home are much higher.

I'm fine with the ranking but it just shows you the parity in FBS when a G5 bottom dweller can threaten a Top 20 team.

Back in the day when the champs were all assigned major bowl games, played each other and THEN a champion was declared wasn't a bad system because it wasn't completely dependent on who you played in the regular season.

Go back to a 10 major bowl game system. Have the PAC/B1G and SEC/XII play each other while 6 conferences have to play a #2 or #3 team from those 4. There would be no guarantee the PAC/B1G or SEC/XII would produce a title contender out of those conferences. You could get a 10-3 out of the PAC so it would be like playing a #2 or #3 from the SEC.

Before you do that, you should know that Syracuse is down to 60 scholarship players. Their starting QB is out and walk-ons are playing.

They looked like a team in mid-season form. We're still trying to figure things out. Pleased with the showing overall but disappointed with the result. Not so bold prediction says BYU wins out makes a NY6 bowl and plays the G5 rep.

I know it's no consolation, but I think Houston will do some damage in the AAC the next few weeks. I watched this game and the Tulane game and you guys have a quality roster. You basically have P5-level talent (no, not upper tier P5 but still, P5 level) on both sides of the ball. Nobody is going to just physically overmatch you. And you have playmakers on offense, starting with the QB.

I predict that among your games with Cincy, UCF, Memphis and SMU, arguably the cream of the AAC, you will win one for sure and very well possibly two. And likely all the rest. You're going to beat the piss out of us.

Wow, WIN a game and lose your job? What's really strange is why pick on the passing game coordinator? If anything, Georgia State was more effective running the ball than throwing it. The run defense was gashed. The Georgia State pass defense coordinator is the one who didn't do his job - Ark State's offense was the one that threw the ball around at will.

Damn, they got some high aspirations in the wilderness of Arkansas, don't they?

Good points, Quo.

Sadly, Memphis might likely no longer be among the AAC cream, as the Tigers just lost their best receiver (Coxie). We were already without an elite running back (Gainwell). I'm fearful of a five-win campaign.

Clemson’s now hung half a hundred before halftime. GA Tech looks like Cumberland.
