We need that type of excitement to go along with this type of new arena. Somebody dial that up please. While winning 21 games we had alley oops, smack talking defenders, even a 260 LB PF who wore Leprechaun tights at a block party.

I think that is the year "Start Wearing Purple" began as JMU made its run to the tourney. This arena is boldly purple as it should be and thankfully no Gold seats as originally had been planned.

I did not see that much excitement 7 years ago. While it sounds good about winning a game in the NCAA tournament and advancing to play Indiana in the second round - in reality it was JMU winning a 16 seed playin game against a top 160 team, and being completely outmatched in a game versus Indiana. Really had a minimal impact on excitement in JMU basketball the following year.

is that when you stopped going to games Dukester? It was an exciting team to watch and one that improved and got much better in the back half of the year. Not the best JMU team for sure, but it generated buzz and JMU's first NCAA appearance in 19 years. Much, much better than what we have seen recently with the program being run into the ground.

I think JMU started that season 1-5 or 1-6 with some fans ready to fire the lame duck Brady and Bourne was smiling like the Grinch. The turning point was Brady getting AJ Davis buying in to accept a 6th man role and become instant offense off the bench.

If a NCAA tourney bid doesn't create excitement, then nothing does. It is THE goal in hoops. Nothing else holds a candle to a NCAA tourney bid.

There wasn’t excitement unfortunately. The excitement in Richmond for the Caa finals and the NCAA appearance didn’t translate the following year. There should have been but there wasn’t. Young roster NCAA etc but maybe it was the malaise over the Convo or the skepticism from the fan base of the 16 seed or Nation getting into problems and the team struggling to win- any momentum was lost.

I remember going to see JMU play at Drexel that year and I could see the look on Charles Cooke’s face- he realized we were small time and he was as good as gone. Not all JMUs fault but there was no enthusiasm and hasn’t been- fans don’t travel and that was when we were “good”. Then by the following year Cooke was gone Nation was suspended and the apathy was still there.

It’s why the new arena was so sorely needed- along with the new coach- to try to jump start some enthusiasm that hasn’t been there since Lefty.

Please. It's a publicly funded building that most on here have donated $$$ to. JMU hasn't provided many updates recently, and the building was scheduled to open next month.

I get the wow factor of a big reveal, but thanks to COVID, it isn't going to happen. Seems the best we get is a few phone photos.

Sucks we're just going to have to be patient to go see games there but it looks to me like JMU knocked it out of the park once again with facilities. But JMU athletics staff was trying very hard to be in control of the releases about the new arena - frankly something I've been openly critical of them about and folks like Cliff Wood have openly apologized for not delivering the updates that were promised during the construction.
