Wild speculation about....WAC MBB Schedule
I'm with Pojo and Gleadley, can't take any more realignment thread. If we're going to do wild a** guesswork why not do some on the 2020-2021 WAC MBB schedule, which AFAICT is still planned to start November 25th. Even though no one except GCU has posted anything.

Just to get started, my speculation for UTRGV's OOC:

- Assume GCU's games prior to 11/25 are shot, leaving 10 OOC games; further assume that the other WAC teams will schedule 8-10 OOC games for parity.

- Lew Hill said in the last WAC Hoops podcast that the OOC schedule was already set and was 100% in Texas.

- Two UTRGV games are always TAMUCC home and away. It's sort of a law.

- Usually four UTRGV games are D-II/D-III/NAIA/NCCAA from TX and OK, but I believe the quota of four is used up by Tarleton and Dixie State.

- So eight (or more) D-I games, in Texas. Wish we could have one of Texas, Texas Tech, or TAMU but they probably have higher priorities for their limited number of home slots.

- Result: TAMUCC (twice), UTSA, Sam Houston, Texas State, Lamar, Houston, UT Arlington.

RE: Wild speculation about....WAC MBB Schedule
Interesting that your entire OOC is within TX. Will surely help out with travel costs.

For NMSU, our AD has said priority #1 is retaining the 4 rivalry games (NuM and the minors). We are also hoping to keep our Northern Iowa game. We usually play 2 small Great State of New Mexico schools. So that's 7 games. Jans mentioned a MTE tourney this summer, but who knows if that is still on. Jans and our AD have said they are having a hard time completing the schedule. That's all I know regarding our schedule..

I "visited" TX for 2 years (D/FW area). I can vouch for the greatness of NM. New Mexicans are not pretentious enough to refer to NM as the the Great State of NM. But I will do it for the rest of the humble inhabitants.

Someone, I think it was PistolPete, said that WAC had to limit the number of D-II moveup teams to two per year, because they don't count as D-I the first year, and playing them home and away uses up the limit of four non-D-I games on the schedule. Is that going to prevent you from playing the usual games against ENMU and WNMU? Or maybe I misunderstood him.

I hear they tried, but the slots were already taken by the NM Military Institute and Northern NM Comnunity College.

Itinerant, it seems you might have a bit of an issue with New Mexico State. Is there a backstory here?

I think you may have 2 schools confused. I believe Tarleton had Gonzaga and A&M on their original schedules. Neither was ever announced as being on NMSU's schedule.

The legislature of the Great State of NM has mandated that we play 2 small Great State of NM schools a year. Sometimes we do one exhibition and one game. Sometimes we do 2 games. I think Pistol is correct but not sure how Tarleton and Dixie will play into that arrangement. Maybe I will pose this question to our AD in next week's installment of Ask the AD.

Yes, Tarleton is/was set to play UCLA, Gonzaga, Pepperdine and Texas A&M.

No hate toward NMState or the Enchanted Land West of The Great State of Texas, just bustin' some chops and keeping things loose around here. Nothing personal.

I have heard of another big power 5 game or two that are on the schedule as well. Should be a lot of fun

On Tarleton's schedule: you're taking on some ranked schools and that's great, it goes with the attitude we're seeing from the TSU commenters here.

But I noticed that in previous years you haven't scheduled many D-I teams. Looks like the last one was TAMU three years ago. Contrast that with Dixie State, they've played UVU a couple times for direct WAC experience. Aren't you worried about a bit of shock the first time on the court?

Tarleton beat TCU in 2005, Baylor in 2007 and lost to Texas A&M by only 9 in 2007. It's not like Tarleton didn't want to schedule them, D1 schools just didn't want to play anymore after those games. The A&M game in 2017 was to celebrate 100 years in the Texas A&M System.

Thanks for that history, I wasn't aware of it. Those games are pretty far back, but to be fair UTRGV's last impressive wins are even older. I'll bet that Baylor win is something TSU old-timers still talk about.

RE: Wild speculation about....WAC MBB Schedule
Tarleton won't suck in D1. That goes for Basketball in the WAC, Indy Football, Volleyball, Golf, etc. Not saying we'll dominate, but we won't suck.

Tarleton is already accustomed to playing (and often beating) tough teams at multiple levels. I've honestly never heard of Tarleton turning down a chance to play any D1 team, in any sport. Just the opposite, actually. And let's not forget D2 Sports in the Lone Star Conference ain't no joke.

That's why us Tarleton fans think you'll be seeing some other LSC schools in the WAC before long. Why? They'll acclimate quickly. The top schools in the LSC are already D1 caliber programs, for the most part.

For example, no D1 team is lining up to play WTAMU this year in Basketball, promise you that. That used to be Tarleton up until the 2017 season when Lonn decided to hang up the whistle.
