MyBB CUSA BB Scheduling Info
Jon Rothstein@JonRothstein

Sources: Conference-USA has voted in favor of having its teams play two regular season games against the same opponent in the same location each week during the 20-21 season. Games will be on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Some other MM conferences are also doing this...

In order to facilitate fair play all attendees will be asked to cheer for the visiting team during the Thursday games.

This is typical of C-USA. Pull a dumb-ass plan out of its butt and claim everyone is doing it. Well guess what...There is exactly ONE other mid-major conference doing this...the Big Sky. And only one other, the WAC is considering a similar plan. That's the total of the some other conferences doing it.

I find it telling that the conference most closely aligned with the footprint of C-USA just released a travel partner schedule akin to the normal C-USA conference schedule.

Looking at the emoji selection on HCAK's retweet, it doesn't look like he's a fan of the plan.

CUSA is so innovative and cutting edge. And stupid.

Somebody get us out of this league, please.

So many unanswered questions/great ideas!
does the visiting team get to truck in their basketball floor for one of these games?
will we get the same referees for both games?
will the Mempis prisoners finally be released cause we need that space for quarantine?
will beer be served on the concourse during the game in order to help us deal with seeing the same opponent twice in three days and not being in our usual seats (you know... the ones we paid for)?

RE: CUSA BB Scheduling Info
This plan is stupid and should be scrapped as the virus hysteria will be over after the election.

18 games = 9 series = 10 home/8 away or 8home/10away. That’s not fair.

If we are playing well and are on the verge of getting a 1st round bye or we are playing to break a tie between 1st and 2nd place in regular season standings, how is it fair that both games get played at our opponents place or vice versa?

Let’s get out of CUSA, please. Sick of it.

Update: The Horizon League has just announce the same plan.

C-USA is going to have to go with a 16 or 20 game schedule. Surely they aren't stupid enough to roll out an unbalanced 18.

"Hey, I think I'll take in a UAB basketball game this beautiful Thursday night. See how Coach Kennedy's Blazers look. Let's see...they're playing ODU. I remember them from the old days."

"Woah! This UAB team is awesome! I think they have another game this Saturday. Ticket lady who wants my money very badly from attending Saturday's game, who will UAB be facing Saturday?"
"ODU"
"No, no...I meant this Saturday."
"ODU"
"But I just saw UAB beat ODU."
"They play ODU Saturday."

In the spring of 2015 UAB WAS OUT OF C-USA. All UAB had to do was tip its hat to the conference, wink and smile for them and walk out the door closing it behind us. We would have been an independent school able to join whatever conference's invitation we wished to accept It was UAB's plea for forbearance over the termination of our football program that caused the conference to give the Blazers two nonplaying seasons to get back on the field. I'm sure there are C-USA members who remember that year.

That was then and that was necessity of the time. That period is over and has nothing to do with the future. UAB has to look out for UAB's best possible situation and C-USA is no longer it. If you don't think that each and every one of the 13 schools wouldn't stab us in the back to get a leg up, you are sadly mistaken.

They have not delivered on providing a big time viable conference. They tried and failed miserably. We owe them nothing other than making sure the door is shut when we leave.

So we beat them to it? Just for the record, what conferences have been banging on Mark Ingram's AD door enticing UAB to jump from C-USA to their loving embrace?

As Jeff Foxworthy says "When your girlfriend says 'We need to see other people, chances are she has already cut one out of the herd'" UAB had better know where they will land before they jump from a pretty good airplane. We don't have Gene Bartow around to use his considerable reputation to get us into another conference like he did getting UAB into C-USA.

Wow. Of course, UAB would definitely have a landing spot secured before any announcement of leaving were to ever be made. And at this point there is no "on the record", but there are efforts are finally being made behind the scenes to improve our athletics situation. The new stadium, all the other completed improved facilities and those on the drawing boards and the new donor initiatives are all very important parts of those efforts. There is only one realistic and currently suitable landing spot full of old conference mates. Hopefully our efforts will end up landing us there in the not too distant future.
