http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/sh...-2020.html

1) A&M-Alabama 4.76M
2) Auburn-Georgia 4.22M
3) Oklahoma-Iowa St 3.77M
4) TCU-Texas 2.70M
5) S Carolina-Florida 2.52M
6) UNC-BC 1.98M
7) Baylor-WVU 1.79M

SEC & XII produce half of the top-4 and 3 apiece of the top-7.

It is interesting that ND v. Duke outdrew Auburn v. Georgia.

I would not have guessed that one.

It's nice that TCU is in the top 4, but I suspect that most viewers were more interested in the other team (although I'm not sure why because we've now beaten them 7 of 9 times in the current conference). And the Frogs now have more victories over them in Austin than any other team (although that's only because OU plays them at the Cotton Bowl virtually every year).

Just to give you a target, here's 2019's top 10 games (https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/college...tings/2/):

Conference championship, bowl games, CFP games not included.

Updated to include Army-Navy (thank you to slhNavy91 for catching the omission).

1. LSU-Alabama (11/9. 3:30pm, CBS): 9.7, 16.64M
2. Ohio State-Michigan (11/30. noon, FOX): 7.1, 12.42M
3. Alabama-Auburn (11/30, 3:30pm, CBS): 6.3, 11.43M
4. Penn State-Ohio State (11/23, noon, FOX): 5.8, 9.43M
5. Notre Dame-Georgia (9/21, 8pm, CBS): 5.4, 9.29M
6. LSU-Texas (9/7, 7:30pm, ABC): 5.0, 8.63M
7. Army-Navy (12/14, 3pm, CBS): 4.9, 7.72M
8. Oklahoma-Texas (10/12, noon, FOX): 4.5, 7.25M
9. Auburn-LSU (10/26, 3:30pm, CBS): 4.3, 7.18M
10. Georgia-Florida (11/2, 3:30pm, CBS): 4.2, 6.98M
11. Oregon-Auburn (8/31, 7:30pm, ABC): 4.0, 6.86M

ND-Ga, LSU-Tex, Ore-Aub won't be played this year.

Other games which had 6 million last year that will be played in 2020:
Oklahoma-Baylor (11/16, 7:30pm, ABC): 3.9, 6.79M
Georgia-Auburn (11/16, 3:30pm, CBS): 4.0, 6.77M
Michigan State-Ohio State (10/5, 7:30pm, ABC): 3.9, 6.68M
Michigan-Penn State (10/19, 7:30pm, ABC): 4.0, 6.66M
Florida-LSU (10/12, 8:00pm, ESPN): 3.6, 6.45M
Ohio State-Nebraska (9/28, 7:30pm, ABC): 3.5, 6.14M
Oklahoma-Oklahoma State (11/30, 8:00pm, FOX): 3.2, 5.82M
Wisconsin-Minnesota (11/30, 3:30pm, ABC): 2.9, 5.03M

The only matchup that has been played to date was Auburn-Georgia. It only had 4.22M this year but it aired on ESPN as opposed to CBS so you have to expect a lower rating and fewer viewers. In the SEC, Georgia-Alabama is probably going to be one of the biggest if not the biggest regular season game of the season. It wouldn't surprise me if it was the most watched regular season game. I'd expect Ohio State-Penn State to be up near the top at the end of the season. The problem is both Ga/Ala and OSU/PSU are early. The traditional Michigan-Ohio State and Iron Bowl games will always draw well and if the teams have good records at the time the ratings will skyrocket. Alabama-LSU won't have anywhere near 16 million viewers. I highly doubt they will be #1 this year. They probably won't be in the top 5 as LSU sucks this year (lost at home to Mississippi State).

It doesn’t surprise me that game drew well. It was week 1 and the first ever “conference” game for Notre Dame. The game was a 10-6 at the half, and was 17-13 to start the 4th quarter. People were intrigued to watch your first conference game, and then was watching to see if Duke could pull the upset.

Yes, not only was it ND's first conference game, it was played at a time when ND was one of the only blue-chip college football brand playing.

Army Navy?
2019 a 4.9 rating for 7.72 million viewers. Still in the top 10 with CCGs included, but also behind the three CFP games and a couple more big bowls.

For the first time in over a decade, the 2020 iteration of America's Game will have competition, and some stiff competion, on the second Saturday of December. I'll be happy to see 2-3 million viewers this year - around what we got in competition with CCGs

RE: 2020 College Football TV Ratings top 10 games- thru week 5
Some discussion about college football TV ratings from Sports Media Watch:

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2020/10...xceptions/

This year no games topped 5 million viewers. "Last Saturday’s Texas A&M-Alabama college football game averaged a 2.75 rating and 4.76 million viewers on CBS, marking the highest rated and most-watched game of the season thus far. ". " Through five weeks last season, eight games had already topped the five million mark — seven were non-conference games (led by Notre Dame-Georgia at 9.21 million) and the other was a Big Ten game (Ohio State-Nebraska at 6.14 million)." "Across the broadcast networks and the ESPN flagship, 28 of 35 windows have cracked the million viewer mark. Through five weeks last year, that number was 62 of 65. Even accounting for the sharp reduction in telecasts, that is a drop from 95% of telecasts last season to four in five this time around."

I still think viewership will go up. It may and probably won't be equal to 2019's viewership but there's still plenty to look forward to, especially with the Big Ten starting up soon. Also, Georgia and Alabama will play in the regular season for the first time since 2015 and they aren't scheduled to play any year up to at least 2025 according to FBSchedules. That will be a game worth seeing IMO.

They couldn't have taken one of the other Disney games, like Florida/Ole Miss or Pitt/Louisville and moved them to that slot?

Yet UCF and Memphis is on ABC on the 17th. Third this year, by the way.

UCF/GT ranks 2nd of 7 ABC Daytime games, beating out 3 P5/P5 games, none of which came within 65% of UCF/GT.

There’s a reason ABC execs keep picking UCF, and it takes less than 30 seconds to figure out why.

This year the reason for both of these statements is the lack of reasonable options. ABC can't air SEC in conference games and the Big Ten doesn't start up for two more weeks. Is UCF that much worse than ACC or Big 12 games (especially when Florida State sucks and Oklahoma and Texas are having down years)? Probably not.

New ratings out.
http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/sk...-2020.html

Tennessee-Georgia leads the way (5.77M) followed by Alabama-Ole Miss (4.89M) & Red River Shootout (4.81M).

Of note, the 2 ABC Daytime games (UNC-VT 1.65M; TT-ISU 1.38M) didn't get within 55% of UCF-GT (3.06M).

That makes UCF-GT 2nd of 9 ABC daytime games and >35% better than the 5 P5vsP5 games behind them. ABC's ratings sure have "taken a beating" for airing UCF. 03-lmfao

Oklahoma/Texas: 4.81M in 2020, 7.25M in 2019, down a whopping 34%! They got beaten in the ratings by Ole Miss and that game was on cable! The cream of the crop of the Big 12 is now getting beaten by the SEC's crap. I can't imagine any Big 12 game other than the Big 12 Championship game getting more viewers than the Red River Rivalry so if not even one conference game can beat an Ole Miss game (on ESPN) in the ratings then the conference shouldn't get any big time contracts in the future. Prove me wrong, Big 12. Get 5M for a game this year. If Oklahoma and Texas can't do it, I have little hope any of the Little Eight can.

Any predictions on the audience for Georgia/Alabama? Last year, LSU/Alabama got 16.64 million but that was several weeks later and it was non COVID-19. Notre Dame/Georgia got 9.21 in the same prime time slot on CBS in September. This game is in October, is a conference game with much bigger stakes, and Alabama is one of the biggest if not the biggest TV draw. On the other hand, COVID is hurting ratings in general. I think 10 million is a reasonable estimate. I think the game has a decent chance of being the #1 regular season game at the end of the season. No doubt it will shatter the record to date. The question is whether one of the big rivalries top it by season's end?

OU was 1-2 and Texas was 2-1, both coming off a loss. Right now Oklahoma St. is the cream of the crop. And Alabama draws better ratings than anybody in the country as long as they aren't playing Southeast Northwestern St. U. That UT/OU audience was probably very close to top 20 last year. Got another game in that top 20 with a team with a losing record playing?

What's your deal with the Big 12? Are you really a Nebraska fan and still smarting over their 1-9 record vs. Texas?

If you think I'm a Nebraska fan, you really haven't been reading my posts here.
