Oh wait... you're just making stuff up.
Aint that right. Even P5's are having money troubles and if you really believe that you guys are not prone to additional stress on finances due to this pandemic plus having to pay that crazy money to litterell then you are welcome to believe whatever you want to but most G5s will not be in the same boat. Even with a 5 MM donation and 1/3 season tix holders donating their refunds we are expecting paycuts and furloughs at ODU but nothing solid at this point.
Of course every program is being effected by the current state of college football. No logical person denies that, and I don't know why you think I disagree on that issue.
As far as North Texas goes, they haves weathered the storm about as well as possible under the circumstances. Could that change sure. It's 2020. Who knows what's around the next corner... But, none of that changes the fact that you're just speculating about our financial future.
WTF are you talking about dude. I was referring to the fact that FAU seems to have gotten a better deal with Taggart since FSU is ponying up the expenses for the near future while you guys are stuck with Littrell until 2023 paying him at least 1.4 MM which is almost twice as much as FAU is paying Taggart. I am just questioning the surplus you quoted(i don't know the source and i could care less) and the financial stability it offers that you are alluding to at UNT. Cuts that happened at FAU might be underway at UNT and you might not be aware and that is what i was saying and nothing more. If you are confident these cuts or furloughs won't happen at UNT then UNT is an exception at G5 level and Wren Baker is a magic worker. Enjoy that i guess.
Ha! You were speculating about cuts coming to UNT, but you don't closely follow our situation. Just like I don't closely follow ODU. If UNT was in dire straights, I'd probably find out before you. From the data and reports I have seen and read, North Texas is doing okay financially. But we will see what the future holds. Our current team isn't making Baker's job easier.
1. one has to be intellectually bankrupt and financially illiterate to claim a program has a "surplus" when 69% of their budget comes off the backs of the students
and only 44% of that comes from the student fee the other 56% is just money that the administration takes from students with most of them having no clue about that
every program on earth could have a "surplus" if they just keep throwing student dollars at athletics with impunity
2. it is all the bigger joke to make that claim when one looks at the growth in academic subsidies for athletics at north Texas state over the last decade and even more so at the non-student fee portion of that spending
then you throw in the atrocious return on that spending in terms of on the field performance and it becomes an asinine claim
in 2010 north Texas state spent $48,920 in non-student fees academic side money.....in 2019 they spent $15.9 million
and again that is NON-STUDENT FEE academic side money
in 2010 that non-student fee academic side money was less than 1% of the student fee money (ONE PERCENT).....in 2019 that non-student fee money was 123% of the student fee money and student fee money has increased well over 200% on that time as well
3. then there is the massive cost to the students in terms of faculty quality and to the university in terms of research that comes with that **** in spending to athletics
we all already know about back under the Sleepy Lane Rawlins administration when north Texas state raised tuition specifically to hire more professors......then a year later had to admit that more faculty had not been hired and the money needed to be used elsewhere
then there is the anemic growth in research and the massive shift to non-tenure track faculty
4. you claim to have some insider knowledge......did you have that insider knowledge when north Texas state came out and had to admit they had stolen $78 million from The state of Texas with false accounting of staff eligibility for salary reimbursement from the state......and the $10 million in "accounts receivable" that were determined to never be recoverable or that did not exist......and the $5 million in "rainy day" funds that also did not exist
north Texas state caught a massive break that the state did not make them pay most of that back, but I am sure things would be different if some of those idiot politicians knew how much money was around to flush away on athletics with such a horrible on the field performance to show for it
the other $15 million of course just had to be stricken from the books to never return
5. it would be one thing to talk about no financial issues (much less a suprlus
) if north Texas state had any on the field results in any sport to show for that spending or on the court or anywhere else.....but you just got thumped by Charlotte that then went "Club Lit" in your locker room after the game.....hell you can get that 25% of the spending
