Jethro would be the clueless guy in the dugout in the 7th inning, asking why nobody has mentioned that the pitcher hasn't given up a hit.

And yet none of them 100% of the time, so I think we can throw out the idea that superstitions results in wins and losses...

Jethro has a friend, great. You guys should message Tiger Woods and tell him what a fool he is. He will probably appreciate the feedback.

What are you talking about? His all time win percentage is sub 25% and he wore red on 100% of events most likely. You are the one trying to act like jerseys are the reason we lost. Explain to me why Tiger does not win 100% of the time simply because he wears red on Sunday.

We lost because SMU played better than us Saturday, not because we wore white jerseys with black stripes... I am willing to take the bet that if we wore those jerseys every game for the rest of the year we would still win the vast majority of our remaining and games despite your inane superstition..

Apparently, superstitions work in mysterious ways.

Sure, the key there is personal superstition and personal results. Again, I have no doubt that "superstition" which is typically just a consistent approach, ala red shirt every Sunday, same meal at same time, same warmup routine, etc., help make individuals more comfortable to possibly perform better.

However, I am saying that just because Tiger wears red on Sunday does not guarantee him a win and rally caps do not guarantee runs and white Memphis football jerseys do ensure losses.

Beyond that, I certainly do not think Stammers superstitions on what jerseys we wear impact the team's performance on the field. I much more willing to accept that in the final 1:30 SMU's defensive line beat our offensive line and our senior QB did pitiful job of ball security and that is what most likely cost us the game. I do not believe Brady White fumbled the ball because he was wearing a white jersey instead of gray though...

I am truly torn. I don't know who to believe.

Throw in Wayne Gretsky and Pele and I'm with you.

I gave a few examples, leaving out hockey players because there aren't that many hockey fans here.

Quote:Wayne Gretzky's Beverage Ritual

This superstition is probably one of the most well-known involving Wayne Gretzky

Gretzky was a creature of habit, and he had a superstition that involved drinking the same beverages between periods. He also would repeat the order of consumption each time he needed to quench his thirst.

The Great One would drink a Diet Coke, an ice water, a Gatorade and a second Diet Coke before getting back onto the ice for the next period. It certainly is a unique way to consume beverages, but it obviously worked for Gretzky.

Almost all hockey players and many baseball players wear playoff beards; they don't shave the entire playoffs.

I work for the Nashville Predators and our whole organization rocks the playoff beard lol.

People have lucky shirts, eat specific foods, step on lines, avoid lines, take the same routes, have favourite numbers and have all sorts of rituals. All have an effect on confidence, all of them.

IF you change someone's pre game routine, don't let them eat what they like, take away their favourite number, wear a different uniform or make any changes to a ritual that they believe in, it for sure affects performance.

The team has now lost its only two regular season games in the last 2 years wearing white uniforms with black trim. Maybe the players feel it, maybe they don't. The bottom line is that no other uniform has that distinction and for that reason alone, that combination should never be worn again.

End of story.

You asked for facts, you got facts Jethro.

No, just having a little fun with anyone who thinks the color of a uniform has anything to do with with wins and losses. Kind of like a rabbits foot, or wishing on a shooting star, or bad luck from a black cat or walking under a ladder. But go ahead. This Jethro will depend on the quality of play and the occasional bad referee call.

Sorry if I offended Canada. The few Canadians I know are good solid people with a sense of humor. I guess there certainly are exceptions.

Practicing, training, preparing, skill level, weather, focus, coaching, and other similar factors are determine wins, not Stammers superstitious beliefs on Memphis jersey colors...

Anyone here can give a million examples. Two entire professional sports grow beards during the playoffs. In the entire history of major league baseball, there hasn't been a single player bring up a no hitter in a dugout. At one point, the Philadelphia Flyers were 36-3-1 when Kate Smith sang God Bless America before their games. Most players put on their shoes or skates in the same order every single time. Most players have a favourite number.

You and Alonzo can go and play with your Barbies or whatever it is you do. Maybe there are no superstitions with Barbie players. The rest of us that have played sports, literally every single person who has played sports will continue knowing that superstitions and rituals play a part in preparation and confidence.

Two entire professional sports grow bears during the playoff and yet only one team wins the championship... Again, I think that sufficiently dispels the idea that beards are what lead a team to a championship... But you keep you believing that your superstition in white jerseys is why we lost to SMU. I will maintain my stance that SMU played better and our senior QB had two catastrophic turnovers, one to end each half that resulted in the loss. We have 05-deadhorse all that I care to.
