Ok, with that out of the way, what if all of Rice’s games vs West teams were considered forfeits and ODU’s games would be considered the same except for East foes. That would come close to balancing things out, right?

Did rice officially back out of the season? What exactly happened?

And are any accommodations being made for us since we will have less conference/division games?

Rice had zero positives on their team but still delayed starting their season until after they were to have played their two toughest CUSA opponents and their five toughest opponents overall.

So instead of starting their season with:
Houston LOSS
Army LOSS
LSU LOSS
Lamar Win
Marshall LOSS
UABLOSS

They have a six game season of

MTSU
USM
UTSA
La Tech
UNT
UTEP

Rice and ODU both should count as a forfeit for everyone that failed to have that game replaced. Too simple.

Agree 100%. These games don’t have to go down in the history books or anything, but they need to have some recourse for just saying F it we aren’t showing up until we feel like it.

Yeah I agree. That is completely unfair to the rest of the conference. To sit out the season from the beginning would be fine with me, but to just start back when they feel like it after the hardest part of their schedule is not fair at all.

I mean, I have no sympathy for Judy MacLeod since back in the day, in her position prior to being Commish, she tried to bully me into stopping use of C-USA in my podcast title about C-USA. Instead of encouraging the fact that a third-party media outlet would actually be interested enough to cover C-USA intimately every week, she threatened legal action.

I, of course, told her to forget it, that it was fair use, and that I'd love to see the conference sue us for the publicity alone.

I never heard from her again, but I do wish I had saved the e-mail for nostalgia's sake.

ESPN is predicting Rice to go 6-0 in its games currently left on the schedule (assuming they man up and play at all).



Image this scenario at the end of the season (according to ESPN projections).

UTSA 3-5 • 5-7
NTX 1-7 • 2-8
UTEP 0-8 • 3-9

MARSH 6-0 • 8-0
FAU 5-1 • 5-1
CHAR 5-2 • 5-4
WKU 3-4 • 4-7
MT 2-6 • 2-9
FIU 1-6 • 2-7

In this scenario, supposedly the UAB at Rice game would be played 12/5 to determine the West Division Championship. That sounds fair, right? Not so fast. If Rice had played Marshall which would have been a likely loss for Rice, then UAB would have won the West outright. In this scenario, I feel Rice should be made to play at Marshall on 12/5 and should they win that game, then UAB could travel to Houston on 12/12 to break the tie.

My contention is that Rice would not have been tied at all if they had not wussed out on their two toughest conference opponents and the burden to decide the division should be placed on Rice, not UAB.

That's been my whole issue all alone. Rice knew they were going to open the season 1-5 and just skipped those games, blaming covid even though they had zero positive covid tests.

None of this will matter because Rice will end up 3-3.

If the 6-0 scenario comes true, Rice should come to Birmingham. They ducked us and Marshall on purpose.

I think enough teams in the west are miffed at Rice so will have some extra motivation plus I don't think they'll win out as mentioned above MT might be their only win
