It is not any FCS schools nor a Big Sky school. Southern Utah shot down that rumor since they are happy where they are at. The WAC really offers them nothing. The Big Sky Commish already talking about inviting Dixie State in the future. SUU, Weber State, the California schools and NAU will sit still until the time is right to add Dixie State.

Thanks for setting us all straight. As usual, you have all the answers. We are talking about adding a new school and you come to tell us Dixie is leaving. They haven’t even played one WAC game and you are telling us they are out the door. 07-coffee3

Dixie State To Big Sky Possible Thread

This is what I am talking about from another news article. With that comment from the Big Sky Commish? There is no way Southern Utah leaving for the WAC. It could be a shot in the bow as not to touch any of their members or they will take Dixie State away, and you have nothing.

Isn't the BSC bloated as is, and the more reasonable action be to shed members who aren't competitive?

The WAC commissioner is Jeff Hurd who’s worked for the conference since 1985. He witnessed the fallout from The Plan first hand and I strongly doubt he would do anything to risk a replay of that debacle. So either the new member is not SUU, or it was SUU who approached the WAC and not the other way around.

Looking at SUU’s statement through that lens, I’m not prepared to make an absolute statement that the new member couldn’t possibly be SUU but I agree it’s pretty unlikely. For now my money is still on West Texas A&M.

I'm also thinking West Texas A&M based off of the statements from a podcast. Could be a completely random school like Azusa Pacific or Colorado Mesa for all I know though.

It’s true that the BSC is bloated in football with 13 members. But SUU won BSC football titles in 2015 and 2017 and so if anyone were to be kicked to the curb it probably wouldn’t be them.

Okay, got it. While it’s easy for the BSC to threaten to add Dixie State, actually doing it is another matter given that they’d be pushing their football membership up to 14 with a D2 move-up.

However if we do look at this from the standpoint of what school the BSC would like to shed, Northern Colorado comes to mind. They’re not competitive in BSC football (no conference titles since joining and only six conference wins over the past three years) and they’re a geographic outlier for non-football sports (their current travel partner is NAU and I can’t imagine most BSC schools savor the annual Flagstaff-Greeley road trip). And now that the Summit has stabilized with 10 members it has no incentive to bring in the Bears. Could UNC be the addition?

Not very competitive, comparatively isolated. I can see it. Still picking West Texas A&M. Though one could lead to the other.

It will not be Northern Colorado. Their Baseball program just moved to the Summit League. I am thinking it will be a bigger mid-major with football.

NAU? Close to GCU. SUU or Weber State? Southern Utah hasn't received an invite and I don't see either leaving a conference they've had success in.

We haven’t considered Southland members. I’ve posted previously that SFA and Lamar could upgrade their basketball status by jumping to the WAC. But they wouldn’t be willing to hurt their football programs in the process. It would have to be part of a larger scheme to establish a full-fledged WAC FCS conference with an auto-bid.

If I were to pick Southland, I'd go with the two geographical outliers in ACU and UIW. Though the full fledged FCS conference with auto bid still applies.

RE: WAC get's 10th member - for real (Official Discussion Thread)
I've pretty much settled on this: it's either SUU or WTAMU, and eventually will be both. An SUU move to the WAC could/should entice NAU, and maybe even NOCO to come on board. And WT leaving to join Tarleton in the WAC will certainly kick off a Lone Star Conference exodus of Biblical proportion. But, why would BSC teams leave for the WAC, you ask?
It behooves the BSC to have an FCS conference in the WAC's re-evolving Southwest footprint. OOC scheduling becomes less of a hassle and the BSC becomes more manageable at 10 teams. BSC Commish may not be as oppossed to shedding a few schools as he is letting on.
And why would WTAMU leave the LSC? Well, the writing has been on the wall ever since the LSC decided to become an 18-member Heartland Conference 2.0
Powerhouse D2 programs like WTAMU (and others still in the LSC) really should not be in the same league as Eastern and Western NM, or a Oklahoma Christian College, for that matter.
When WT leaves to join Tarleton in the WAC, Commish Hurd will have Angelo, MSU, UTPB, Kingsville and Commerce beating down his door to be let in. I also believe a few Southland schools will be wanting a piece of that action, i.e. UIW and ACU, for starters.
You see, just one or two bold moves, and then all of the sudden, the WAC can be a SELECTIVE conference again, and can build an FCS/FBS league of its choosing.

Looking at a combination of factors — geography, stadium capacity, football attendance, arena capacity, basketball attendance, and athletic budget — I think the most appealing Southland additions would be ACU, SFA, Lamar and Sam Houston State.

UIW makes sense from geographic and budget perspectives but their facilities are sub-par and their fan support is poor.

WAC could go to 16 schools, and then split into 8 as the none football schools could restart The Great West confernece.

Seattle U.
Utah Valley
California Baptist
Chicago State
Grand Canyon
CSU-L. A.
Western Washington
San Francisco State

West Texas A&M
Dixie State
New Mexico State
Tarleton State
UTRGV
Angelo State
Colorado Mesa
Midwestern State

Great West in the future.
Seattle U.
Utah Valley
California Baptist
Grand Canyon
Chicago State
CSU-LA
W. Washington
San Francisco State
Cal. Poly-Pomona
Seattla Pacific
Azusa Pacific (football in Pioneer League or an affiliate in the WAC.)

WAC
West Texas A&M
Dixie State
New Mexico State
Tarleton State
UTRGV adds football
Angelo State
Colorado Mesa
Midwestern State
Central Oklahoma
Northern Colorado
Southern Utah
Northern Arizona
Azusa Pacific football only.

Big Sky can refill with Central Washington and Western Oregon which could move Simon Fraser's football to the RMAC. Central Washington vs Eastern Washington could fire up a fan base in the state of Washington that could turn both schools around. Portland State vs Western Oregon could do the exact same things.
Central and Eastern are both over 10,000 students enrolled. Both areas are growing demographics. Merging the schools would hurt the state big time because you only have 5 4 year public schools that are D2 and higher. They both are doing better than Evergreen State right now.

Big Sky commish was talking about expanding the Big Sky. Dixie State, Cal. Poly and UC-Davis in as full members would be a start.

I was mainly throwing in UIW because of geography. Fair point on the facilities. Thought they'd at least have better facilities for everything but football.

I love the Tarleton fans' attitude. Haven't even played your first WAC game and it's let's be selective conference again.

Reminds me of an Indian friend of mine. Came out of his citizenship swearing-in ceremony and immediate announced "too damn many foreigners in this country".

Big Sky commish was talking about expanding the Big Sky. Dixie State, Cal. Poly and UC-Davis in as full members would be a start.

Where could they possibly expand? They're bloated as a conference as is. Link for that?

Big Sky can refill with Central Washington and Western Oregon which could move Simon Fraser's football to the RMAC. Central Washington vs Eastern Washington could fire up a fan base in the state of Washington that could turn both schools around. Portland State vs Western Oregon could do the exact same things.
Central and Eastern are both over 10,000 students enrolled. Both areas are growing demographics. Merging the schools would hurt the state big time because you only have 5 4 year public schools that are D2 and higher. They both are doing better than Evergreen State right now.

You are so dumb. EWU President has been bought out and they pumped a sry story of her going on sabbatical. Presidents of schools don't go on sabbatical.

Yes but UIW is uber wealthy and very concerned about its brand. Tarleton knows them well; they would have the audacity to make the move. Plus, they're already playing WAC soccer.
