That article tells a good story. BTW, there were several other folks who were asked to retire besides Daley. Glad he spoke up

W&M Cuts 7 Sports
It'll take a big donor, like Ukrop, to turn his or her back to make Huge appreciate us small donors.
I get both sides. I also want dominant football and basketball. I want those things but I need to see integrity out of the AD's office and I believe Huge needs to leave for that to happen.

Streamlining, not cost-cutting.
The entire structure of NCAA athletics is out of whack.
When .... when .... is a member institution going to call out the NCAA?
The reduction in the total number of student athletes for streamlining is a (fill in the blank) of epic proportions.

Perhaps LaSalle took parts the Stanford announcement.

RE: W&M Cuts 7 Sports
I’m not going to investigate this further, but about 8-11 years ago, for three years, the LaSalle AD worked in the Delaware AD office, and when LaSalle hired him, the Stanford AD (yes, that Stanford AD) praised the hire.
The language used in the Philly paper’s interview is eerily similar to language that W&M used.
Did LaSalle use the same consultants?
Did LaSalle and W&M really get institution-specific analysis, or is some template being used by former Delaware folks at their current institutions?
Be interesting to go down this rabbit hole.

RE: W&M Cuts 7 Sports
Lookey here.
Huge at Delaware ‘09 through ‘14, per Wikipedia.
Baptiste was at Delaware ‘10 through ‘13, if my math is right.
Maybe they used the same report and shared the costs.
C’mon John O’Connor, got to point this stuff out. This is not a coincidence. This is not two separate institutions arriving at the same conclusion by different routes.
It’s been admitted that they all talk to each other.

W&M Cuts 7 Sports
That is a very interesting tidbit about how closely Huge & La Salle AD Baptiste are aligned. Interesting indeed. I never even considered a connection between Baptiste, Muir, and Huge. Seems they are all connected. Does make the timing and decisions to cut sports all the more curious.
Not sure if the years line up, but I know Huge and Baptiste both have Georgetown on their resumes when Muir was the AD as well.

RE: W&M Cuts 7 Sports
And, of course, Stanford cut sports several months ago.
All Delaware people, all worked together, in the space of three months, they all cut about seven sports. They all talked to each other, but not to the members of their departments.
This is scandalous.

Does anyone know how the Covins as potential rowing donors came into the picture? The rest is all pretty familiar territory at this point.

You all do realize that a whole bunch of schools are eliminating sports right? Iowa, Minnesota, Bowling Green, Furman, Cincinnati, ODU, Akron, Central Michigan, ECU, Florida International, App St., UConn -- and that's just off the first page of a Google search.
You can agree or disagree with the decision, but it's not like Stanford, La Salle, and WM are coming to drastically different conclusions than many (most?) other schools out there.

You do realize that she made false promises, plagiarized another school's letter, treated donors rudely, refuses to hold herself accountable, fired mostly everyone without cause, lied about soliciting donors to save programs, informed student-athletes via a 10 minute video, and misused funds to get us more in debt, right?

Did I argue any of that? I'm interested to see where I've ever defended Huge's conduct. The point is that there's no shadowy conspiracy of former Delaware athletics staffers to take over other schools' athletic departments to cut sports.

I agree with both of you, to certain extents. I get why schools are cutting sports, and WM is certainly not immune to financial hardships. Men's gymnastics has been cut at a good amount of schools (I think it's down to 11 or 12 schools sponsoring it at this point), for example, so it's not necessarily a shock we would also axe the program. But I think the way Huge has gone about the whole process is bad, and I've really soured on it/her.

How do you know that? 3 ADs from the same background coming to the same conclusion, in sequence, seems fishy to me. I don't believe in coincidence.
Many of us have stated, repeatedly, that cuts may very well be necessary. You know the rest...and her actions make her a bad fit for W&M. I'm willing to bet she has singlehandedly alienated 50% of donors. That's not okay.
