This is the first ever meeting between the Panthers and Pirates.

GSU favored by 2 points at home. Should be a good game.

Ad far as we know, Panthers are at full strength without missing any player from covid related issues. Another good news is that the all-sec defensive back transfer Jamyest Williams was just cleared by the NCAA for an immediate eligibility. Should appear in the starting lineup soon. Jamyest is also an absolute playmaker as a kick returnef and has the ability to take it to the house at any time. Remains to be seen if he will appear as early as the ECU game. Could be a welcomed surprise however.

ECU should be absolutely hungry for a win after suffering a lopsided loss to UCF last weekend. I expect them to be 100% ready and not overlook us in their preparations this week.

A point of interest. After being cleared of covid related issue, QB Mikele Colasurdo rose to the #2 QB spot on the depth chart over the Vandy transfer QB who battled Quad Brown very closely for the starting QB spot during the camp. The talk is that Colasurdo is a gunslinger with accuracy and awareness in the pocket, as well as being a great student of the game. Quad is the starter QB with the better athleticism with 4.33 speed, a big arm to throw deep, and 6'5 frame that you cant teach. If Quad struggles however, wouldn't be surprised if Colasurdo gets a shot for few drives.

I am old so I am just shocked that we have gotten to the point to be favored over the Pirates.

Actually it sounds like Vandy transfer asked for a position change since he is a freak athlete who was not going to start over Quad. And ...no way Quad runs a 4.33.

Don't even know what you guys are talking about but Quad passes the eye test for me. 4.33? Didn't really "see" that but for sure saw a player that is a difference maker for GSU. SBC is improving as a league and pushing Mountain West hard.

Some people for whatever reason on our board have been talking down about Quad based on one game. I posted his first game stats vs the last three starters, Dan Ellington, Connor Manning and Nick Arbuckle. He comes in 2nd, and those other three guys turned out ok. It's funny how fans can sit back and believe that several coaches who are living this 24/7 must have missed something. He did really well for that to be his first game and for him to basically be handed the keys toward RPO offense and let loose. He is only going to get better.

Yeah but ECU played the Justice League so no telling how good or bad they really are. I DO wish we were coming off a blowout win of Charlotte.

I believe 4.33 was the from the football camp he attended prior to joining Georgia State. I havent seen his 40 time personally either. who knows man. Sometimes people with long legs and long strides look slow but can run fast like a giraffe.

I think many were really expecting the Vandy transfer to win the job over Quad, because Jamil is bigger, physical runner, and even more athletic than Quad.

As I said before, I think Quad struggled at times but he gets a pass as a freshman without experience. Just glad we have some wonderful rising QBs in the depth chart. Last year was a painful reminder why depth is important. With healthy Dan Ellington, we could've won 10 games. With gimpy Dan with one busted knee, 7 wins.

But they were expecting that based upon what? Hearsay? LOL. "I think guy A that I have never seen play is better than guy B I have never seen play"

These QB controversies are a crap show when fans have actually seen the QBs in game play. When they haven't... oy.

The last three QBs have improved through year one and made great leaps from year one to year two. The huge difference is thaf this kid will be a sophomore next year and will have at least two years left after this year. He is going to be very very good. Patience.

UCF is really, really good.

I think ECU/GSU will be a good game. It is one I had planned on making the trip to Atlanta for, pre-COVID.

Hoping for an entertaining game, and injury-free!

Probably hand timed.

He looks fairly quick when he gets going, but 4.33 is Jayson Foster/Favian Upshaw fast (for a comparison to some fast as hell QBs) and he ain't moving like that.

He does look to have a step or so on Ellington though. Hard to get a real gauge on how fast he is quite yet having only seen one game. The game this weekend will be interesting to see.

I believe 4.33 was the from the football camp he attended prior to joining Georgia State. I havent seen his 40 time personally either. who knows man. Sometimes people with long legs and long strides look slow but can run fast like a giraffe.
4.33 is what Albert ran at the combine. No. LOL

Was just told 4.33 was short shuttle. His 40 is a 4.6.

Calvin Riddley and Julio Jones both ran pro day/combine 4.4s just as an idea. There were only 3 sub 4.4s in this year's combine.

Ah that makes more sense to what I see on the field. He didnt look as fast as that WMU RB we faced last year. That guy was fast...

I know not much can be learned from just 1 game, but I'm curious, what do you consider the strengths and weaknesses to be on your team this year?

Coach Houston talked about your QB being a really dynamic dual threat guy. He said you are really physical on both the OL & DL. But that's about it.

For ECU... a really short & sweet rundown...

I'll start with this... UCF was really good.

Our biggest weaknesses:

OL is pretty darn bad. We rotate a lot of guys, but we are a long way off from being competitive in the AAC with this kind of OL.

DL is unbelievably young. Most of the kids who got reps against UCF played their first college football last week. We have lots of bodies to rotate, but they have virtually no experience. Growing pains.

Our biggest strengths:
Holton Ahlers. Kid is a warrior at QB and has to do it all. Most times he's running for his life.

Our WR's are the strength of our team. CJ Johnson is awesome, and is only a sophomore. They didn't have a great week against UCF, but we hope and expect them to perform like they did in the 2nd half of the 2019 season.

Surprisingly, our defensive secondary is as good as it has been in a long time. The PROBLEM is, our front 7 got virtually no pressure on the UCF QB and they had to cover for 8-10 seconds. But for the first time in a lonnnng time, we have DB's that can make plays.

Deep at RB with a couple of exciting young guys.

This is basically a pick em game at this point (w/ Station Casino actually now favoring the Pirates by 1). This is a big game for ECU. I've watched extended highlights of GSU vs UL. It should be a good game but I do think ECU will work out the kinks and get the O rolling this weekend.

Shawn Elliot is a former OL coach and we have 4 returning starters up front. They are very physical and our RT is a likely draft pick. Our QB QB is a RS Freshman with a cannon arm. He is elusive enough. He can beat the rush and take off. It's hard to compare because we had Dan Ellington who was a ridiculous runner. Our defense seemed better in the first half but returned to bad habits in the second half vs Louisiana. This game will show us a lot one way or another.
