Jackson originally played for BCG at Ranger JC in the 2018-19 season. While at Ranger JC, Jackson averaged 12.2 ppg & 4.1 rpg as a sophomore. He then signed at Prairie View A&M where he averaged 3.7 ppg & 2.0 rpg for the 2019-20 season. Jackson will probably need to redshirt this season with one remaining year to play.

Saw that. Played HS at Everman (fort worth), his dad played at Tarleton back in the 90s. Gotta hand it to him, BCG wasted no time making this team his own. Nice group of young, high-character guys.

I honestly think you guys will be ok, this year especially with BCG running things. If you guys would have kept your last years coach, you guys would have been fight Chi St for last place. By year 4, you guys should consistently be a top 3 team in conference. By that time you guys would add more value than the teams you replaced. UMKC and Bako

RE: WAC Commits 2020-21
Cal State Bakersfield had a great basketball tradition before moving up to D1. But I think the Roadrunner program has gone a little stale under Barnes leadership. CSUB can only hope the change in scenery will give Barnes a new lease on life as a head coach. This season "should be" Barnes best roster since Dedrick Basile blessed their blue court 4-5 years ago. If Weir did one good thing for NMSU, he avenged Menzies' last loss as the Aggie Coach; before exiting to UNLV. Nevertheless, back then I questioned if Barnes had elevated CSUB's program to a perennial championship contender? Or, if Barnes had simply caught lightening in a bottle with one good group of players; spotlighting Barnes less than stellar career record as a head coach? As it turned out I was right. He could not duplicate the feat (or even come close) once Basile graduated from the team.

As for UM Kansas City, the Roos have never a had a winning tradition. UMKC has been marred in mediocrity since it joined D1. After being an also-ran in the Summit for many years, in a desperation move the Roos program jumped to the WAC with the hopes that it would jump start their program. Admittedly, the move helped the WAC but it never led to many wins for the Roos. Now, that UMKC has returned to the Summit there is some hope that the recently hired Billy Donlon will make the Roos competitive. Last season, the Roos did look like a better basketball program than the years past in the WAC 8 or 9 years ago.

Moving forward the two biggest positives about adding Tarleton State the Dixie State is they both have winning traditions at the D2 level. They know how to win and expect to win. And, both programs arguably have better coaches running their respective programs than the two exiting WAC programs. I do not see either Tarleton state or Dixie State becoming WAC bottom feeders. However, they will have difficulty navigating past the current group of WAC teams; as they all have coaches who are gaining traction at their respective programs; minus "maybe" Chicago State. Hayford, Croy, Drew, and Jans, are all established winning coaches. And, Hill has finally found his groove at UTRGV. Only Madsen and Irvin WAC futures are in question. Although, Hayford might soon be on the hot-seat if he doesn't change the direction of the Redhawks program. If no one jumps ship within the two or three years, I feel the WAC could be the strongest it has been in basketball since Utah State, Nevada, Fresno State, Boise State, Hawaii, and Louisiana Tech left the conference.

I haven't followed UVU recruiting too closely, but I'd expect them to have some quality players come via BYU, either as transfers or by referral. Mark Pope is a stand up guy and he knows more than anyone about how the schools share a lot more than location.

FWIW, on the women's basketball side, UVU just announced a transfer from BYU. One of dozens over the years in various sports. Good to have schools like that be non contentious.

Here is BYU transfer Colby Leifson. He appears to be a long distance bomber...

I saw him listed as a BYU transfer on the UVU roster but didn't look up his story and his name didn't ring any bells for me. Those returned missionaries are hard to keep track of!

You only get shots like this off in the WAC if Trey Drechsel is supposed to be picking you up.

RE: WAC Commits 2020-21
Colby Leifson will be one of the players to watch on the UVU team. He is listed as a Sophomore after transferring from BYU. But he has a two-year LDS mission under his belt so he is a little older; graduating from high school in Georgia in 2016.

https://www.ksl.com/article/46713585/for...tah-valley

Mark Madsen brought in a little more three point shooting, a little more athleticism, and a lot more size. But it remains to be seen if it can offset what UVU lost over the offseason.

Looking at other new incoming 3-point snipers to the WAC; other players to watch could be Seattle U's Nate Robinson, and Tarleton State' s Konstantin Dotsenko.

RE: WAC Commits 2020-21
Not a criticism of him at all, but am I the only one who sees Colby Leifson having a very horizontal shot. Loot at the release point, very flat. Dotsenko seems to be much more vertical. Robinson appears to be between Leifson and Dotsenko in release point. If it goes in it is a moot point, but a flatter release point does make a block easier.

Colby has absolutely no speed or quickness and is about as skilled as our 2 local walk-on’s. All someone has to do is trap him and it’s a guaranteed turnover. He’s just a spot shooter at best.

Unless Leifson is going to be the primary ball handler, I don't see why a defense would try to trap him? Speed/Quickness doesn't always define talent. i.e. NBA star Luka Doncic. Doncic is as slow as molasses but his basketball I/Q and skills are off the charts. I'm not say UVU's Leifson is like Doncic but if Leifson has deep accurate range and is paired up with a good big men down low who can pull in the defenders inside the arc, Leifson might be able to light up some teams from deep; or at least create good spacing for the big man to wheel and deal in the paint. Former UVU WAC POTY Jake Toolson wasn't that quick either. Leifson has the type of skillset that stretches defense.

That’s a big difference. Luka has skill and moves that work for him, kinda like how Ivan was. I don’t see this guy putting the ball on the floor much, especially with Rice, Henry or Watson guarding him. Plus Jans says he likes to trap their weaker handlers when they get the ball because of their turnover ratio.

He might be the kind of player that you don't even notice being on the court until he's got 3 3's in about 2 minutes on you. Then the defense gets all over him, he seems contained, and them later in the game, all of a sudden, he does it again.

RE: WAC Commits 2020-21
Colby Leifson appears to be mostly a spot up shooter. On offense, he will probably float around the court without the ball trying to find gaps (spacing) in the defense to get off his shot. I don't think he will garner double-teams but a lot of defenses might employ ball-denial on him when he gets hot from behind the arc.

RE: WAC Commits 2020-21
NMSU added JUCO Darreus Brown (6'4, 180, SG) from Clarendon College and Mineral Area CC prior. He originally signed with Iona but backed out of his NLI shortly after Rick Pitino took over the program. He will join the Aggie program late as a walk-on. He averaged 8.4 ppg in 10 games at Clarendon and averaged 16.5 ppg at Mineral Area the year prior. Brown is known as a good three point shooter hitting 64.3% from behind the arc last season and 42.1% two seasons ago.

RE: WAC Commits 2020-21
Chicago State adds Aaris-Monte Bonds late to the Cougar roster. He is 6'6, 215-lbs and averaged 14.8 ppg and 8.4 rpg at Southeastern Community College. He only made three 3-point shots last season while shooting over 60% from inside the arc. So, he appears to be an undersized power forward. Looks like a solid pick up for Coach Irvin.
