Ten Years Ago Today...
We can't let this anniversary slip by without a bit of reminiscing.

21-16 baby!!!! Was at the game with the wife and older daughter (2010) and two friends who are VT alum. Needless to say they did not say much on the ride home!!!

Absolutely totally crappy day weather wise but a great win for the Dukes.

RE: Ten Years Ago Today...
My son & I were there, JMU nation showed up well that day. We all know someone w/ Hokie connections, one of my friends gave me a great parking pass & a couple of tickets to game- He Still Regrets it to this day. For as good as the Dukes played that day, I also remember how bad they played against the Ticks in RVA that season and thinking- How Did We Beat Tech?
A great victory over the Hokies, but the rest of the season was disappointing.

Hard to believe we were a .500 team that year.

RE: Ten Years Ago Today...
Started the season 3-0 and ended 6-5. Great win, bad season.

That was the only JMU vs VT game I ever missed. My family is filled with VT grads and my uncle is a retired VT professor and grad. I spent my Freshman year at VT. Dad is a grad too.
While I still root for Tech, I don’t when they play JMU of course.

People may not remember this but JMU lost two starting o lineman to a season ending injury in August that year. The odds of winning that game were a gazillion to one. VT went on to finish 10-3, win the ACC and play in the Orange Bowl that year.

App States 2007 win over Michigan was big but JMUs win over VT was a bigger upset. App was an FCS NC 2005-2007 so their upset while unlikely, wasn’t the level of JMUs given how our season went in 2010.

Still sits in my back pocket.

"Last time we played Tech...."

I loved Mickey for many reasons, but even if you don't or didn't, you gotta admit he broke through a lot of ceilings.

Top 5 program for 5 years.
National Championship
Win at Ranked, and ACC Champion VPI.
Without his success, the stadium expansion would not of happened as soon as it did.
Won three road playoff games on way to National Championship

RE: Ten Years Ago Today...
I was living the dream in Hawaii at the time, a DOD contractor and enjoying life. I called that win and was very vocal about it on this board. I was wearing my JMU gear around Waikiki that day and many a football fan stopped to praise the Dukes for the big win. Weird how our season and the turkeys' season ended.

I can remember 21-16 like it was yesterday, great day. I dreamt big then...

Seems like our days of playing any 1a VA or any regional 1a programs are over. Almost three classes of Dukes have come and gone since that great day at Lane Stadium.

RE: Ten Years Ago Today...
I’ve always thought JMU should position and light up a large “21-16” sign on top of BFS’s video board, facing out towards I-81, so turkey fans can see the score on their drive to-and-from Blacksburg.

Didn’t JMU just play WVU last season? And (pre-COVID) have UNC scheduled for this season?

Or perhaps you don’t consider WVU, UNC, EZU, or MD as “regional 1a” FB programs. 07-coffee3

Yes, I overlooked WVU, good get and game...almost became a huge win.

We can no longer play UVa (1984?), VT (10 years ago?), Any regional G5 is off the schedule (huge rival App is gone, when did we last play Marshall?, ODU is off the schedule)...EZU is loading up on regional G5s we can't play. Even Liberty is off the schedule... Can Maryland even play fcs teams anymore?

Yes we can on occasion get a pay check game (the games I most like to attend) but we are not in the regional football conversation.

In the meantime we are lip sticking Norfolk State and Towson claiming a school in Fargo North Dakota is a peer rival while gaslighting our own fanbase and that makes me sad

Doesn’t JMU have Va Tech on the schedule in 2025 or 2026?

If we play VT every 15 years how many more times will you see JMU play VT in your life?

Is App State scheduled ever again? Remember the trash talk with App? That was fun.

I can't recall ever playing Marshall.

Our football schedule sucks, our home schedule really sucks, the OoC games which are just awful. The Chatt Mocs are the best we can do at home.

JMU with a great fanbase could do so much with basketball and football. Basketball may be on the mend, the football schedule can't get better at the fcs level. I guess the good news is the football schedule can't get worse either with one exception, the decline of NDSU as a NC write in every year.

There were things I liked about Mickey, running the ball up the middle 99 out of 100 plays was not not one.
