It was such fun and exciting brand of basketball to watch. As far as I know (and yes I go all the way back to when he was coaching) everything said in Harry's article is true. He was most impressive in every way and still deserves to be in the Virginia Sports HoF.

Sonny was first class. He and Paul Webb were great ambassadors for our school and were able to outwork the competition before money became the all controlling factor in college basketball. Will miss his exciting fast break basketball. Rest In Peace, Sonny!

What a great coach and class act. He brought the “Running Monarchs” into the elite of Division II and left the program on a solid foundation to make the jump to DI with ease. He also recruited my two favorite Monarchs of all time in Dave Twardzik and Wilson Washington.
