Yep. Legend Geeter has just committed to Providence.
It has seemed for a while that he would go high major.

I like the idea, not so much for EMU but the athletes. Few, if any guys in the MAC are headed to the NBA and this is their last year of playing organized basketball. They deserve the chance to finish their careers in a setting approximating the on they signed up for.
Seven seniors on the roster will cause quite a logjam and oversupply with incoming recruits in 2021-22. It's likely a guy like Spottsville or for that matter Morgan, Groce or Montero could really drop down on the rotation. They should be grad transfers by then and thus eligible to find a better opportunity on an immediate basis.

Remember that scholarships aren't guaranteed and the 'rule of thumb' is that the student-athlete gets an opportunity to get his degree. If he gets his degree and doesn't fit into the coaches' plans, then he may not be offered his final year (e.g., '5 to play 4').

Steve that is my point. My guess is that a Darion Spottsville finds himself without a true role this season and this extension will allow him an opportunity to finish his career elsewhere the next season. Perhaps closer to home in California.

RE: Unofficial 2021 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
Here is my thought that perhaps up to 3 seniors on this year's team may have decided themselves they want to move on after this season either with their life and/or I guess maybe grad transfer. We will see.

RE: Unofficial 2021 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
I know this is not a place for a Rob Murphy-futurecast, but I have to wonder and am hoping those who have been around it a little mroe than me can help:
What happens to the commits we have if EMU and Murphy part ways?
Thanks

I have my doubts that Rob and staff will be judged on the upcoming season. It's a freebie in my opinion.[/i]

RE: Unofficial 2021 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
As we suspected, I think, as the Ivy League has canceled their season, it opened up a flood gate of transfers.. (And that might explain why the MAC decided to play an abbreviated 2020 FB season. Otherwise, the flood gates would open for transfers).
https://verbalcommits.com/transfers/2021
BTW, what is sad is that these student-athletes will need to compromise their Ivy league degree to be a 4-year athlete. Ivy leaguers only get 4 years to complete their eligibility. NO redshirting and 5 to play 4. Many are transfering.

Mine as well. I'm glad the kids are getting a chance to play but honestly the NCAA is playing football and basketball for one reason, TV MONEY. MSU beat Duke in Durham last night in front of cardboard cutouts, instead of the Cameron Crazies. Rob Murphy had to play his first game with just seven scholarship players. Basketball coaches are paid to to win and keep their players academically compliant. This year those objectives have taken a back seat to managing the virus, unless a coach exhibits egregious behavior, I would see no rational reason to dismiss him. I'm not a Murphy fan but he deserves to be here next year, it is only fair.

I'm not sure I agree. NBA, NFL, NCAA, etc are playing, in my opinion, because players want to play and fans want to watch.
I'm ready for the NBA to resume with 2020/21.

Steve I no longer agree with my post either. Rob Murphy has a considerable skill set to be sure but he is NOT a D-1 basketball head coach. Letting him go after this season will give him a jump on his next career opportunity albeit as a Power school assistant or a head coach at a lower level. It would also allow him to select a job more proximate to his chosen home in Syracuse.
More importantly, it would provide a clear choice for our senior laden roster as to whether they would like to return for another season. I still think this team has a lot of talented individuals that deserve a coach that tailors his approach to exploit his player capabilities rather than expecting them to subvert to his one and only program strategy. Coach K at Duke abandoned his preferred man to man and played zone a few years ago when his team capabilities or lack thereof demanded it. That is coaching, plain and simple. Time for Murph to go.
