Week 5 - Jan 2
Week 6 - Jan 9

RE: B1G having second thoughts?
No second thoughts. The B1G coaches and AD's supported playing the fall season. The problem for them is there was a vote, er no vote, by the conference presidents guided by the commish to have no football this fall. Anyone else notice that none of these constant storylines in the media is coming from the P12?

FWIW, Northwestern announced that Freshman and Sophomores are not going to be on the Evanston campus for the Fall quarter.

Then you have a team like Florida that may be a 1 loss coming out of an entire SEC schedule. I do not buy the CFP committee ignoring the other polls and leaving an undefeated OSU out no matter how easy their schedule is.

The B1G made their bed. There should be a min amount of games required to be eligible for the playoffs.

you are correct. OSU would have a 'randomly generated' 6-game schedule consisting of Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Illinois/Purdue, Michigan State & Michigan.

B1G got a serious ego check. They are too big for their britches & thought everyone else would line up behind them. They were wrong. They made their bed, now make them lie in it.

I don't feel sorry for B1G at all. They wanted a woke & PC commissioner, they got it. Suck it up and own it, deal with it, live it.

If I'm paying Northwestern rates, I'd be seriously angry.

RE: B1G having second thoughts?
The lowest % of giving by Texas grads was those in the 80s. Texas grew from 40,000 to 50,000 in two or three years starting around '78 or '79. This was when the main computer was housed in a full building and most computer science classes used keypunch cards. Registration was a very manual process that involved people wrapped around the stadium in lines. Texas really didn't serve those students well.

These universities are going to have pretty weak ties with these students. Might as well go to Southern New Hampshire University. They know how to do this.

So the other conferences take a couple months off before running into an 8 or 9-0 OSU in the semis? Sounds legit...

Some early games have been postponed until a later date because some of the players tested positive for the virus.

The schools that want to play are stopping practice once a new outbreak of players tested positive for this virus. You are risking to spread the virus playing to your team mates and to your opponent. It is just greed instead on safety for the schools playing.

Yeah, because Pac 12 sports don't matter. Not even in their home markets. Hell NFL doesn't even matter to LA.

RE: B1G having second thoughts?
If the big 10 does start late only play 4-6 games, they shouldn't play in the playoff. It wouldn't be right to the other conferences that would play 10 games or more. Those extra games could get more banged up, injuries, longer time to get exposed to the virus.

RE: B1G having second thoughts?
B1G and PAC should have done like some of the FCS conferences and allowed their teams to play non-conference games now.

A conference really has no reason dictating to schools that they not play Fall games that are not part of the conference. That's a control/power move, nothing else.

E.g., some FCS schools like Eastern Kentucky who are in conferences that have 'postponed' conference football to the Spring have been able to put together 8 or 9 game OOC schedules, giving their fans what they want, a slate of fall football.

Schools like Nebraska should be allowed to do the same.

Opinion

College Football Is Not Essential

Why are some schools pressuring student-athletes to play a game that could expose them to the coronavirus?

If I hadn't decided long ago that donating to colleges was a bad use of money, all of this would have pushed me in that direction. It was so silly to cancel everything then completely and delaying to Thanksgiving, while better than January, isn't that much better.

Dumb article. Nobody is pressuring student-athletes to play - all the conferences have said any kid that doesn't want to play due to covid concerns keeps their scholarship. That takes all the pressure from the school off.

In contrast, conferences like the PAC and B1G have applied maximum pressure on students not to play, by canceling (oops, "postponing until Spring") their fall seasons.
