Does this mean they are gone? No turning back?

This is very myopic thinking on their part if true, especially if it is in regards to no football this fall.

1) Both Sophomores, so that can't go to another 1-A school without sitting a year.

2) Chances of anyone finishing a season are probably going to be pretty slim, even if they go to a 1-AA school

3) Can't go Div 2 or 3 as the NCAA has already cancelled that.

Wow. Two good young players on the roster. I thought mike love was going to have a good career after playing as a true freshman

Gotta be some other reasons behind all these players that we’ve had transfer that had starting roles.

This kid played as a freshman! WTF is going on?

This is life in the G5 unfortunately. And once they pass the rule allowing everyone one "free" transfer without sitting a year there will be even more movement. Best not get too attached to anyone.

Michael Love is transferring? He did play as a freshman, which stinks. But we've got some interesting options at WR that I think should mitigate that loss.

Unsure on Antwain Walker, that seems like a pretty deep hit. He was projected to start this year, isn't he? If Dillon Thomas starts, who lines up after him?

I’m sure there’s rampant tampering going on right now across Division 1 football. Young guys have a lot of time to get dumb thoughts. Coaches trying to stack their teams. Antwan Walker is a loss but not that big of a loss to me. He was over hyped and couldn’t cut it at U of I. Got smoked often in coverage last season. Michael Loves brother plays in the NFL. Maybe he’s going to Notre Dame to try and make it. Still a dumb decision since he has very few highlights as a Huskie. This year will be a character building year for this team. I’m excited with Thomas Hammock’s recruiting efforts. Can’t wait to see the finished product on the field “Next man up”. FYI if schools start paying these student athletes with no regulations we will be in trouble. The level playing field will be destroyed by the P5 programs. The foundation is weak for us mid-majors.

Both these guys committed at the very end of their respective early signing periods, around mid-December.

To me, they were looking for a bigger offer or something else held them back. At the last minute they took the best offer.

Both of these guys were committed to other schools before NIU. Do they have commitment issues? Maybe. Did they really want to be at NIU? Apparently not.


This actually strengthens the team as 2 more Carey recruits exit it allows Hammock to make this his team.

Nope. Both were Carey's guys.

Love commited in December of 2018, Hammock didn't join till January of 2019.

Wasn't Antwain Walker the dude who decommited from Illinois because he would have been forced to go to summer school to meet their academic requirements. His direct quote is "“I wasn’t going to go [to junior college] for a 2-9 record." That was in 2017, far before Hammock.

Love might be good down the line. But I don't know if Walker will amount to much. Hopefully I eat my words.

Mark Aitken had beaten out Antwain Waliker for starting CB last year. He opened the season in game 1, but was injured and was out for the season. Mike Love is a 5' 9" WR. I hope both players "dreams" come true. I am pleased that they made their decisions early to give us time to replace 2 players who did not want to be Huskies!

Ahhh so a repeat of a year that looks like Aitken will beat him out again. Judging from Walker's past history, this kid has a bit of an ego. He probably thinks he's too damn talented to play backup. But it's not like transferring makes those dreams come true anytime soon? Everyone gets the year off anyway.

I liked Walker, thought he showed as a true Fr. Didn't he make some plays in the MAC title game? Who knows I could be "mis-rembering".....LOL...

I "remember" the opposite (which isn't saying much!). I thought he got beat pretty good in the Buffalo game and then in the Boca Raton Bowl got absolutely torched by UAB. Wasn't he the guy on the "coverage" for the 70+ yard TD to open the bowl game? Yeah, he was a freshman. But if that was Walker, then I'm not losing any sleep over him leaving.
