New Athletics Presentation
Over the years, Athletics has undergone numerous visual representations. Now it is poised to honor the rich heritage of Tarleton Texans while providing a strong creative foundation to lead our long-successful programs to an even brighter future.

While rooted in legacy, this fresh concept is distinct to Tarleton Athletics. It features a comprehensive update to stationery, promotional materials and print collateral pieces — a major step in elevating the athletics brand.

We invite you to a preview at http://www.tarletonsports.com/D1 in advance of the launch Monday, Aug. 10.

As we rally our communities behind the new look, we hope you will join us. Together we will forge a winning path in NCAA Division I.

This is from an email I received today. This D1 thing is getting exciting.

Much better than "Roll Texans"

New Athletics Presentation
One thing is clear from the images in the presentation, we lack unified style and font on our uniforms.

Tarleton the institution historically liked a Serif font with the block T, but there is no consistency through athletics.

I have to admit I had never thought or noticed this before. I wonder if this is going to be addressed over the next couple of years with the rebranding.

Possibly. I've seen a few universities put out their teasers for something big only to reveal that they have adopted a specific font, spirit mark, or unified hex color

I like what you’re saying Chris. It will be nice to have a set font/style throughout the department

I noticed that as well. Doesn't seem to make much sense, though I am a fan of the cursive on the men's basketball jersey. You'd think they'd at least be uniform for men and women for that sport. Wonder why we don't.

I concur, and personally feel institutional and athletics branding should be seamless. I like the look of "Tarleton" in all caps, with a slantish font as we see with WT. The block "T" looks dated.

Tarleton has always struggled with branding and self-promotion. Especially in the social media arena.

I like that basketball script as well, I noticed that Golf uses the same font on their hats.... which is a basically a knockoff of the Titleist logo.

Didn't notice the golf don't on the hats. Football aside I wouldn't mind seeing that script more often.

On the surface, I don't think Block T is bad if you want to connect it to our past. I don't like the lack of standards between the Block Ts. Some have a fat base, others are narrow. Some seemed stretched and others squashed.

A&M makes use of the their flat aTm, there is a diamond SMU, the flying TCU, interlocking UT and the flat Double T that all connect back to the past.

Tarleton has made decisions in the past to change its brand from time to time. The D1 page made reference to WJ Wisdom picking Plowboys to get away from the Jr. Aggie name.

In 1961, we retired the Plowboy name for Texans (over other names like Rockets) to give a more modern brand.

When I arrived at Tarleton, the sTu logo and the Texan Rider were common. By the mid-2000s, there seemed to be a push to distance Tarleton from its rural/cowboy image. The bevel Block T was more pervasive.

Recently the horse and rider was modernized and called a "spirit mark". It faces right (ever forward) rather than left (looking back).

Like you I expect to see something similar to WT.Based on the language they are using, "Here comes the Texans", we are looking to the future. I expect to see something Modern and slanted to the right to push the up and coming message.

The new/latest Texan Rider is atrocious. Way too cartoonish. The flat 80's era logo with Texas state border outline in the background is timeless. And most importantly, he's facing the right direction.

Missed that part. I guess that makes sense. Facing the "ever forward" direction means he/she/it is covering up the whole state silhouette though, which irks me.

New Athletics Presentation
It feels very familiar. I realized it reminds me of an 80s TSU logo that I saw on some bumper stickers and in a Grassburr

The forward slant is clean but reminds me of TCUs "Flying T" logo

Not that this wasn't tried to be fixed before, but wasn't ever adhered to or supported.
