7 players and 6 staff members test positive for the Cardinals. Supposedly the players broke MLB protocol and went to a casino a couple weeks prior.

Sounds like their own fault... or are we still blaming the owners for money grabbing?

Seems like it falls in the realm of players that get hurt playing pick up basketball or something. That’s not the league’s fault. That’s their own decision that led to that.

Meanwhile, you have the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles saying he tested positive but can still coach virtually while away from the team. I understand every case is different (such as the case of the pitcher you posted earlier). I also understand you feel very strongly about “we don’t know what the future ramifications are”, etc... but this is all getting a bit ridiculous to be over-reacting to EVERY case, when it seems like a very small percentage of the cases require it. Just my opinion. I know others feel differently and I respect that. We don’t know who’s correct yet. Time will tell.

RE: 2016-2020 MLB Thread
Of course the players deserve a big chunk of the blame for a lack of self control. But the MLB should have had some idea of how this would play out if the players were left to their own devices. Hence why we've now seen at least 2 teams with 7+ cases, not just 1-2 "rogue" instances. And hence why they should have gone with the bubble approach like the NBA if they wanted to really make this work and keep the integrity of the game.

It's just going to become a big joke when a bunch of teams are sending AAA talent onto the field.

Probably about a 50/50 shot the full season doesn't happen at this point.

I thought it was fair, you seem be overly worried about everything. Did you worry this much about H1NI? Do you shake when you drive an auto to work?

I'll disgress, it's ok we feel differently, I'm just not going to sweat every single report of someone getting a cough, nor will I point out the 1 in 10,000 that might have some difficulties after.

CG- Couldn't agree with your last post more!

COVID has not yet been here a year and has appx. 716,000+ deaths.

H1N1 was around for nearly 2 years and had appx. 284,000 deaths.

I think there's good reason to worry more about COVID than H1N1. They're kind of apples and oranges in terms of viruses too. A better comparison would have been SARS.

And again. We know enough about H1N1 to assess the long-term risk. We don't yet know enough about COVID to suggest there's little to worry about there.

Am I worried about my own death or long-term damage? Not so much. I've actually been playing some slow pitch softball the last couple weeks, trying to get back to a little bit of normalcy. Our team has all been wearing masks in the dugout though.

But I DO worry about others. Friends, family of all ages who could die or have some long-term lung or heart damage. As more info comes in, I'll reassess. It could surely be an overreaction on that front. I kind of get that people die or get sick/ill a multitude of ways and why people would say there are other things that kill us faster than COVID. But at the same time, I don't see that as a good excuse to avoid mitigating the risk with our behavior.

It just seems a bit cold and lacking in compassion to be so flippant about this thing right now. I don't know anyone personally who has been killed, but I've heard about plenty of parents burying their age 20-something kids. And, of course, I also worry about the increased suicide rate due to quarantine. No one really knows how to find a healthy balance yet between mitigating risk and keeping people healthy from a mental and socioeconomic standpoint. A successful vaccine would be a game changer there.

In any case, since you decided to respond here, I'll say that it was most certainly NOT a fair response. I posted some science to explain why Myocarditis was a very likely link back to COVID. Your response to that was to say I should be fitted for a straight jacket. Nothing I said warranted that. I didn't insult you.

We know each other outside of this board so, for me to get that kind of response from you, it came off as unexpected and rude. I didn't earn that.

Sorry you were offended, didn’t intend for it to be that way. You always could take a joke, guess the sarcasm didn’t come through? I don’t really think you need a rubber room.... the rest.... well that’s debatable

against all odds(at least 08's odds) MLB completed it's sprint yesterday. Playoff predictions? I'd be SHOCKED if the Yankees beat the Indians.

Quite the accomplishment on a drastically shortened season, and he didn't even play much of it.

Hope to see him stick around!

Cubs find a semblance of an offense in the playoffs and bring home their second title with Theo.

it could happen. I didn't follow the cubs closely this year I was shocked to see how dominant Yu was. But, we will see in the PS. Beiber was unhittable in the Reg season and the Yanks shockingly got to him for 3 already

Yu was really, really good this year. The last few starts weren't as dominant, but I like that guy a lot and I'm proud of how he bounced back after so many counted him out.

Their "core" wasn't good this year. Baez was recently rated the worst hitter in baseball this season and it isn't because he's chasing. He's been challenged with fastballs and missing them. Schwarber looked great at the end of last year and has been bad this year...Rizzo and Willson have bad, but not as noticeably as Baez and Schwarbs. KB just seems to be snake bit; he can't get right either.

18 straight losses for the Twins in the PS, that is nuts!
Marlins looked like the hungrier team today, but if they lose Marte that could hurt

I'm really torn on who to root for in the ALCS, Tampa is a bunch of loudmouth punks and Houston is, well, Houston!

This shouldn't be hard. If you can cheer for Chapman, you can cheer for punks. Plus, we've been able to see a lot of those punks play here in Durham. The alternative is pull for confessed cheaters.

I hate Atlanta, but still would rather see them advance than LA. Atlanta/TB may not have the national interest of LA/Houston, but I that is what I'm pulling for.
