They mention making the jump to the A10 in the last sentence. Hope they know something we don't.
Ha, I didn't even notice that. Maybe he thought an A-10 like La Salle would have gotten in on him?
Sounds about right, as Cal said, for our guys. I know some people like to judge our recruits based on the other finalists and schools showing interest, but for a mid-major like ODU, you have to develop your relationships ahead of the big boys and oftentimes lock them down before the even get around to making an offer. If you enter a race with multiple power programs, you're going to be exiting in short order.
Typical JJ recruits. One had North Texas St. as top recruiter and the other had Howard. Both were guards of course. Forget big men or 2 stars. We are belong that level now. Wood, you are digging a big hole.

I have screamed BIG man until I'm blue in the face. This doesn't surprised me at all! JJ doesn't know how to recruit. He is pitiful! This off season complete failure at recruiting what we needed was a disaster. I totally give up on anything JJ does. I know I know I will take the shots from the rose colored fans in here but lets see where we stand in March. Our ONLY hope for success with this team is if Kalu turns his game around and plays like he is capable of but hasn't been able to for the past two seasons. He needs to plat at the #4 position not 5, but once again we don't have a legit 5 so he has to play out of position. Same old crap!

You realize this is the 2021 recruting thread, right? No one on this thread will help in 2020.
As for the big man, I think people on here would be happy if we rolled out a no guard roster. Just recruit a team full of guys that are 6-7 or taller right?
Right now we have Long, Shanu II, Reece, Ezikpe, Karaiskos as big men for the 2021 team plus however many scholarships remaing a full year in advance.
You guys are silly.

Which school is North Texas State?

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021
We added 6-10 John Shanu (PF) to a frontcourt that includes 6-8 Kalu Ezikpe, 6-8 Joe Reece, and 6-9 Dimitris Karaskoi. We added 6-7 Mekhi Long and 6-7 Brady O'Connell to a wing group that includes 6-6 Xavier Green, 6-5 Jason Wade, and 6-5 Alfis Pilavios. We added a dynamic PG grad transfer in 6-2 David Strother to a stacked backcourt that includes 6-2 Malik Curry, 6-5 AJ Oliver, and 5-11 Jaylin Hunter.
We have a TON of versatility--as 11 of the 13 players listed will split time at multiple positions. Xavier Green, Jason Wade, and Joe Reece might play 3-4 different positions throughout the season! We have enough height on the team to play with just about any team in the country. It's not 1996 anymore. You don't need a true Center to be competitive...especially when the four other positions on the court can defend and rebound their position at a high level.

Bacote was painfully inconsistent. IIRC he disappeared his senior year much like Stith and Green did down the stretch. Not really excited about another Bacote.

Bacote got better every year and his senior year was his best year by a longshot. The buggest issue for Him was that FreeMan came in and took over. We should pray to get players like Bacote.
Which Stith disappeared in their senior year?

The talent on this team is flat out not good enough. It’s always next year, just you wait!
Last year we were a joke and I don’t see any reason to think we’ll be markedly improved this coming year (if they even play).
With Covid being Covid, now is a perfect time as any to make a change.

Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021
If we are just going to resign ourselves to the fact that we are playing small ball indefinitely, what is the reason that we don't leverage our advantage in speed? Why do we have 4 or 5 guards out there playing slow?!?! Jason fricking Wade is out there playing minutes at center and we are walking around like a Sunday stroll in the park. I'd be much more open to the concept of "positionless" basketball if JJ wasn't coaching it.

If everyone in the world plays it, is there any reason to call it small ball?

That's all JJ knows how to recruit. No stars and guards. Three so far, when will it stop?
NO MORE EXTENSIONS!

That back court is going to play together for 4 years. That is going to be special.
