Ray said more than 80 percent of families who selected a fall learning option requested virtual learning.


SCS leaders said each student will get a digital device. Devices will be distributed the week of August 3 and continue throughout the month of September.

Designated pickup dates and locations for the digital devices will be based on school and grade level.

Each school site will prepare meals for students. Multi-day meal packs will be available for families. Schools will provide families with additional details.

SCS is also identifying local childcare providers, like the YMCA, who offer reduced or no-cost childcare options for essential working families.

It's that 80% number he's throwing around that is very puzzling.
I predict you will soon be able to get a good deal on secondary market laptops.
And they are working on meal pickups and childcare options, but not school? What's the COVID difference? They seem to be trying awfully hard not to teach the kids - doing everything but that.

This could very likely be 21% of all students, not 21% of responses.

If there were 1000 students in Germantown and 262 of them responded (with 210 saying they preferred virtual), you could state:
- 21% of all students have signed up for virtual
- 80% of the students that responded signed up for virtual

Jason and John were on the radio late June talking about the SCS numbers and even then it was 70% of those that had responded wanted virtual. No mention of if it was 10 parents that responded or 10,000. Jason, I think, also pointed out that the parents that were involved and had a real preference were going to be the ones responding, not the majority of the system

the point with Germantown was that the number went from almost none of the responses to 1 in 5 in three weeks after the district had started developing a plan based on responses

I guess you would assume a non-response would mean status quo (Go to class).

Exactly. NBA and NHL will finish the season but I expect all other team sports not in a bubble to be screwed. Especially high school and college. These are kids, doing kid things, and none are professionals.

Yeah, I'm guessing that's it. Because SCS initially said those who did NOT respond would be enrolled in in-person school.

As for the G'town responses, that's not really puzzling to me. People were waiting to make up their minds until closer to the deadline. As it approached, the numbers trued-up to 21% - which is very much in-line with all other schools (except SCS of course).

C'ville initially had the options for 100% virtual, or 2 days/week in-person and the rest virtual. Then a bunch of parents protested AGAINST virtual, and they revised it to include a 100% in-person option.
