RE: What if????
The article makes it sound like the WF game could still happen if we are willing to switch the schedule and go there. UVA will look like giant pansies is they play, we play, and they refuse to come to Norfolk. My guess is we haven't announced our season plans yet, and won't until after UVA does, so it gives us leverage in making them pay the buyout if they refuse to come here.

Yup, I think ODU's going to be the last party to announce anything in order to maintain leverage in negotiations.

RE: What if????
Quote:Marshall Crowther, a sports medicine physician at the University of Mississippi, stepped in. “The problem is a lot of this we don’t know,” Crowther said. Most people, he said, seem to not have lasting effects. He acknowledged the growing concerns among medical experts about how the virus affects people’s hearts but said there has not been enough time to conduct long-term studies.

Catherine O’Neal, a professor of medicine who specializes in infectious diseases, chimed in then, describing how young medical residents at her hospital who have contracted the virus have complained of being exhausted for four-to-six weeks. If that happened to college football players, she pointed out, it could affect their performance.

“Even though we’re saying you’re great because you’re not hospitalized,” O’Neal said, “it’s going to take something out of you.”

They should absolutely be kept safe and have the right to their own free speech. I don’t know where they think all this money for everything else will come from. Schools are cutting sports to keep from going broke. I think if they aren’t willing to play in a safe environment with great coaches, facilities, room, board, college tuition and a COA stipend, then they are free to go pro or take a hike if they can. There are tons of kids who would love the privilege of playing college football and getting a free education potentially worth six figures. while doing so. They are being handed a tremendous opportunity and seem a bit unappreciative. I would love it if my kid could earn a free ride somewhere and would be grateful.

In all honesty, do we really relate to the kids who play on scholarship, and the many who are the first in their family to ever attend college? I don’t. Do you?

What if????
I got the impression the primary issue was not playing due to Covid but I could be wrong. I'll wait to hear what their official statement says.

They lost me at 50% of revenue. I don't think there's a conference around that could make that work.

They’re delusional. Go pro if you can, accept the free college scholarship and enjoy the game and experience, or choose not to play. There aren’t any other options.

RE: What if????
If CUSA gave out 50% of their lousy revenue it wouldn’t be much more than the COA. P5s on the other hand would get crushed. Maybe it would bring them down to a bit more equitable level.

Did you even read the actual demands? I would *think* (considering the schools involved) that they know some of these things aren’t possible, but know that those “hard to get items” may lead to things the NCAA doesn’t want to give up (I.e, one time transfer exception for all sports)

The demands are absurd. These college players think that the schools are making a fortune of them. In some cases, sure, but a larger portion are struggling to make ends meet and donors are keeping them going. And what about all the "minor" sports, how do they survive.

Quite frankly, they don't. One of the demands was to "save all sports." You can't have that and a revenue-sharing model. Most universities, who actually make a profit on FB/MBB, portions of that revenue goes towards help funding other sports. I could see maybe some sort of revenue sharing for athletes in sports who generate significant revenue (which isn't many). However, there goes the budgets of several other sports.
