RE: Blue Check Hasn't Left Home in 140 Days
My home was built as a second house, a lake house. When a friend took a job in Chicago, I bought it for my primary home, moving up from Houston. After living here 17 years, I've learned that it has some shortcomings as a result. But I love it and wouldn't want to live elsewhere.

But I'm not going to stay anywhere for 140 days without leaving. Even at the height of the shutdown, I made 2-3 trips a week to Walmart, Kroger, or H-E-B. We went fully remote at the university after spring break, so I didn't go there from March until a couple of weeks ago. We are doing hybrid in the fall, one class day a week, the rest online. Or at least starting that way, as there are a number of doubts that will hold for the semester.

Another example....
Liberalism is a mental disorder

Imagine a Conservative getting on social media and admitting they are too scared to come out of their apartment for
almost 5 months. Never gonna happen....

That’s not a badge of honor. That’s a sickness.

At the height of the shutdown, I was walking 10-12 miles per day. Also built a deck.

My life didn't change one bit. Never missed a day of work. My store shopping never changed. Jyst had to start wearing a 9cent piece of tissue with two rubber bands around my ears a little over 2 weeks ago.

I'm benching more than I have in 10 years. Drinking a bit too much too. I've put on about 15 lbs but can still run a 5k. No joke this lockdown hasn't been easy, but I sure as f and sitting in like a hermit.

Quote: The Elephant Rope
December 5, 2018 Reshma Santhosh

Story:

As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at any time, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “When they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.“

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Moral:

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Failure is a part of learning and it’s natural to lose our confidence during failures. But we never notice the rise in our maturity levels, thereby forced to live like elephants life, as in this story.

Mine hasn't changed a bit either. As a matter of fact I've been working more OT than usual. So thankful my job was never shutdown. I feel so bad for those that were.

Have only wore a mask when going into a nursing home or going into elderly customers' homes.

I won't set foot in a Wal Mart/Kroger/Home Depot, etc until they no longer require the sheep mask.

I want to call fabrics on this...but...My daughter and her husband have pretty much done close to this. Both have been able to work from home during this and because they both are type 1 diabetics(yes..they married each other with it) they have pretty much sequestered themselves in their home. They have everything they need delivered to their door. They will get in the car and drive down to the beach or just go out to for a drive together... but are really terrified of any contact with others. I think they are a bit overboard personally..but..I want them to come out of this alive and bring me a grandchild if they can...so..Im not going to judge anyone on their level of caution during this. This is a new paradigm for ALL of us.

The lack of true purpose and meaning in life makes people search for and find a sense of accomplishment in the strangest things. Climate people are crazy about it because it’s all they have. These people staying in their apartment really believe they are performing a righteous act. The antifa nuts believe their cause is just and right. People need a struggle for validation. Since these people have never had real struggle they have to create their own to feel a sense of accomplishment.

Their parents should have let them struggle more growing up and they would be better adults.

I don't doubt it. The neighbors a couple houses up the street haven't went anywhere not their property since Foghorn Leghorn shut stuff down here back in March. They have both groceries and take out delivered, and called my across the street neighbor to contract his son to cut grass and weedeat their yards. They pay him via Paypal. That really shocked us because he's a retired college professor and she's a retired school teacher and both are environazis and the kid said he would only do it if he could use his own equipment because he's already cutting a number of yards around town. Pretty much the only time that either of them leave the house is to check the mail. Absolute madness.

Amen, great post. It's 1st world problems on steroids.

More evidence that wealthy liberals are out of touch with reality. I am 100% on board that staying out of crowds and distancing is good for all of us. But virtue signaling about how you've been home for x number of days is BS. The vast majority of people don't have that luxury if they wanted to. That is privilege.

Sorry, that's weird.

Getting outside and walking is not going to give you contact.

Staying isolated is disastrous for your immune system. If your body isn't fighting off things constantly it will not be able to fight things when it needs to.

I agree. IMO, that's why kids that go to preschool often don't get as sick when they enter kindergarten as do kids that stayed at home, etc.

I didn't go to kindergarten (it wasn't universal in those days). I missed something like 23 days in first grade. I got it all, mumps, red measles, chicken pox.

My neighbors have a home in the NC Mountains. As soon as schools closed back in March they went up there and haven't been home since. They have a cleaning service clean their house every other week and a lawn service keeps the yard up. I'm assuming they'll be back soon, their kids go to Catholic school and all private schools in the area are opening as scheduled in August.
