If that does happen, I will tell people Penn State was so afraid of us they paid us to not play them.

I don't see a season happening from start-to-finish. One person on team tests positive and the whole team is on lock-down for 14 days. Cross country might be the only sport playing in the fall.

I don't think the whole team would be on lockdown for 14 days. Just long enough for them to all get negative tests back (which is currently around 2 days I believe). I believe that's how baseball is going to be handling positive tests from players.
With that said, I agree with your statement. I'm very skeptical that the season happens... Same with baseball.

How do these cancellations not go in the books as forfeits?

It doesn't matter who wants them. It is what it is: a forfeit.

A forfeit means little, doesn’t make a difference, nobody wants one, but we’re not playing them because they refuse to play our scheduled game so it should be chalked up as a W.

Whether it 'should" be considered a win or not, it won't be. A forfeit is a win, but such game cancellations do not meet NCAA criteria for forfeiture.

You are correct - this is not a forfeit and won't be considered as such.

RE: Kent State University to cut Budget 20% for 2021
After reading some articles today online and in newspapers I'm starting to fear that the economic fallout due to COVID-19 is going to be worse than I ever thought, and especially so below the P5 type schools. As it is, only about 30 athletic departments are self-sustaining, and that figure will drop. Mid-majors are even further away from being self-sustaining, and it can only worsen now. It's scary.

Athletics have become very bloated at colleges. This was from a few years ago but there are 51 coaches in Ohio making $200K+. We're not just talking football or men's basketball, but fencing, swimming, softball, baseball and others. Now, I would think about the only non-revenue sports coach worth $200K (with the realization that women's basketball can be a revenue sport) would be one who runs a continuously nationally ranked program like Herb Page. Honestly, a D1 college baseball coach should be more like $100K. Congrats, you can make a decent living doing what you love, but you aren't worth a quarter million a year.

Higher ed badly needs a course correction financially and this COVID crisis will probably force the issue.

Bopol, it's astounding how much coaching salaries in D I have risen over the last 40 years, even allowing for inflation. There are more talented young coaches looking for head coaching jobs at mid-majors each year than there are openings. Basic economics would dictate that with a surplus of coaches seeking a job, supply and demand would hold wages down. That article shows the head coach at YSU earning $227,000. How is what a coach does warrant that kind of money? I can see it at the elite level, where their team actually earns a profit. And whether a mid-major coach earns $200,000 or $100,000, they still will leave for a P5 type job as soon as the opportunity arises. Am I missing something?

Dude, you stole my joke. I've been saying this since the whole thing started. Kent wins a bowl game, disease, famine, murder hornets.

Has anyone heard any news on potential budget cuts? Akron has announced quite a few but I have not seen anything in regards to Joel making any decisions. Knowing him he will try to punt until next year when he is gone.
